The Commotions
CD Release Party – “Volume II”
Babylon Nightclub, 317 Bank Street
Friday, December 1; $10 at the door

The Commotions have sidestepped the lightweight pop craze and taken the back roads straight into the hearts of their loyal followers, earning unwavering support from the true lovers of genuine, unsullied soul music. This 12-piece, sharply dressed, original throwback to the days of Motown is an evolved collection of Canada's top funk & jazz players.

This new CD is packed with amazing talent. Fronting the band is both Rebecca Noelle (La Voix, The Peptides, David Gogo, and The Rumours) and Jeff Rogers (The Cooper Brothers and Silver Creek) on vocals. Both musicians have very successful careers on their own but have decided to bring their talents to the project.

With a sonically monumental performance and an energizing visual display, The Commotions command every room they play, drawing in audiences with their sizzling brass section, thumping backbeat, and sensitive ballads.

Come and join us for our CD release party at Ottawa's Babylon Nightclub on December 1.

Bill Durst is a Canadian Blues-Rock-Roots guitarist, singer, songwriter, entertainer who has written and recorded over 125 songs on 12 albums with 7 national radio chart hits. Bill’s entrance on the national/international stage was with his classic rock band Thundermug formed from London R&B groups in 1969. NAC Presents
Whitehorse
With Begonia
NAC Babs Asper Theatre, 1 Elgin Street
Tuesday, November 21 @ 7:30 pm

Whitehorse's brazen sonic breadth encompasses psychedelic surf, arid border rock, lo-fi ingenuity and icy ‘80s sparseness. New album, “Panther In The Dollhouse”, brings a twist to Whitehorse's studio approach with the addition of beats and bleeps from NYC hip-hop production duo Like Minds (Kanye West, Snoop Dogg). But while each new album sees the duo's sound evolve, the essence of Whitehorse's musical identity remains their dizzying guitar playing and vocal chemistry.

On “Panther In The Dollhouse”, Whitehorse delves deep into body politics and explores questions of consent, self-determination and, ultimately, freedom, largely from the perspective of women. Layers of retro psychedelic pop bubble up on ‘Nighthawks’, a song that explores the constructs of perpetrator and victim on the streets. “Panther In The Dollhouse” is packed with inventive sonic elements and neo-noir drama, full of flawed characters, foiled plans and anti-fairytales.

“Raucous, rowdy, gentle, sweet, eccentric, quirky, and outright irreverent” are all words that have been used to describe Tas’ music. He also goes into schools, hospitals and community centres on a regular basis to give Blues Education Workshops. In 2014 he received the prestigious “Keeping The Blues Alive” Award from the Blues Foundation for his work. Tas is coming to us fresh from a major Blues Benefit Concert for the victims of Hurricane Maria held in New York City on November 21 where he will be sharing stage with artists like Alexis P. Suter, Vanessa Collier and Slam Allen.

Tas is bringing his drummer and harmonica player from his band The Tortured Souls with him and will be joined by Maple Blues Award winners Murray Kinsley on guitar & vocals & Leigh-Anne Stanton on bass – the two founding members of the great Ottawa Blues Rock band Wicked Grin. Wicked Grin won the Maple Blues Award for Best New Group in 2014 and have been on a tear since. Leigh-Anne won the MBA for Bass Player Of The Year in 2015. They have recently returned from major tours through the U.S. and Europe.

Red Maple Blues Blues Dances

It is with great sadness that Red Maple Blues must announce that we must cancel our 'Four Years at Fleur' party that we had scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, November 1 and all other dances at this venue. The Tea House has been sold and, unfortunately, the new owner is not interested in continuing our 'odd Wednesday' dances. We regret to announce this as we had really been looking forward our community celebration as we know you were.

RMB definitely plans to continue hosting dances and events and will be in touch to inform you about the new details. We're currently looking for a new home. Know of a venue, that you feel would be a good fit and may be receptive? Contact us via FB message or at ottawaredmapleblues@gmail.com

In the meantime, we'd like to remind you that we're hosting the late night at the OSDS Anniversary dance and would like to see you there!
Stay tuned and thanks so much for your understanding.

The 25th edition of Virée Blues Moosehead presents
Bill Durst
Bar Le Petit Chicago, 50 Promenade du Portage, Gatineau QC
Wednesday, November 29 @ 8 pm; $20
(OBS members $15 with membership card)

Bill Durst is a Canadian Blues-Rock-Roots guitarist, singer, songwriter, entertainer who has written and recorded over 125 songs on 12 albums with 7 national radio chart hits. Bill’s entrance on the national/international stage was with his classic rock band Thundermug formed from London R&B groups in 1969. By the summer of 1972 the band had a number one hit and a fan following in Eastern Canada. The band went on to record a total of 5 albums, (3 albums in the early/mid 1970s and two CDs in the mid 1990s) releasing records in the US and Europe. Bill put out his first two solo releases in the mid ‘80s but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Durst got some real career momentum. In 2004 he proclaimed his intention to start up a “little, fuzzy, psychedelic blues band” and since then Bill and his co-writer Joe DeAngelis have produced 5 full length CDs: “The Wharncliffe Sessions” (’05), “The Great Willy Mammoth” (’09), “Live” (‘12), “Hard And Heavy” (’13) and “Good Good Lovin” (15).
