Paul Reddick
Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Friday, May 19 @ 9:30 pm

Paul Reddick has been creating his own, compelling version of the blues for over 25 years, bringing the art form to new frontiers with his poetic lyrics, spirited vocals, masterful harmonica playing, and hypnotic live performances. Rooted in a deep knowledge of blues music history and nourished by a poet’s sensibility, his “wayward brilliance,” as the influential British magazine Mojo puts it, makes Paul Reddick one of the most popular figures, and the unofficial poet laureate, of the Canadian blues and roots music scene. His debut release on Stony Plain Records, “Ride The One” won the JUNO Award for Blues.

FOLKRUM--Ottawa Community Music Venue Presents:
An Evening of Soul with Rebecca Noelle
            With special guest: The Commotions
Greenfield’s Gastro Public House, 900 Greenbank Road
Friday, May 19 @ 8 pm; Dinner from 5 pm, Show starts at 8 pm
Reserved seating for dinner and show Tickets $10-$25, in advance at:

This show includes two sets. Opening with The Commotions, and headlined by Rebecca Noelle:
"I’m really excited to be performing where I grew up. Many of my songs were born, arranged and rehearsed in Barrhaven, but we’ve never performed there. "A Homecoming", if you will. It will be a night to remember in an elegant and comfortable setting. I hope you will be part of this rare double-header. This show will be filmed--striving for the “ultimate take,” all stories will be told, all risks will be taken, and all moments will be magical! "

The Commotions have sidestepped the lightweight pop craze and taken the backroads straight into the hearts of their loyal followers, earning unwavering support from the true lovers of genuine, unsullied soul music. This 12-piece, sharply dressed, original throwback to the days of Motown is an evolved collection of Canada's top funk & jazz players. This band originally united to provide a Canadian contingent to Funk Brother's (Motown Records) lead vocalist Delbert Nelson as "Delbert & The Commotions". The band's Musical Director, Brian Asselin honed his skills playing with acts such as The Four Tops and The Temptations, and his original music has been featured on HBO and ABC in the U.S. The Commotions are currently working with Canadian soul hero Jarvis Church of The Philosopher Kings, Juno Award winner Steve Marriner of Monkey Junk, Steve Berndt of the Jivewires, Juno-Nominated saxophonist Petr Cancura, and jazz hero Mark Ferguson. The band features vocalists Jeff Rogers (Silver Creek and The Cooper Brothers) and Rebecca Noelle (The PepTides, Rumours, and David Gogo.) With a sonically monumental performance and an energizing visual display, The Commotions command every room they play, drawing in audiences with their sizzling brass section, thumping backbeat, and sensitive ballads.

Safe Low Limit
130 Ste-Cecile St. Vanier, ON
Saturday, May 20; 5-6:30 pm; pay what you can

Ottawa's lone "low instrument only" group Safe Low Limit invites you to a pool concert/video shoot! This house concert will take place in the owner's empty swimming pool and promises to be a one of a kind event both visually and acoustically. Admission is free and the band asks that attendees "pay what you can" in keeping with the usual house concert format. Of course, this event is weather dependent and might be cancelled last minute in case of rain.

Safe Low Limit is a new jazz oriented group that consists entirely of instruments pitched in the bass clef. This exciting, eclectic band uses tuba, trombone, cello and drums to create a truly different musical experience and incorporates an equally eclectic variety of obscure standards, funk hits and original compositions in a wide variety of jazz and pop styles to leave the audience wondering what in the world will they do next!

Safe Low Limit: definitely not for the high minded...!

Paul DesLauriers Band
Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Friday, May 26 @ 9:30 pm

Sometimes you just have to do what you love, and the Paul DesLauriers Band has been very busy doing just that. The trio is made up of virtuoso guitarist and singer Paul DesLauriers and masterful rhythm section Greg Morency on bass and Sam Harrisson on drums. At this year’s Maple Blues Awards, the members of the rhythm section each picked up awards as Bassist and Drummer of the Year. It was Morency’s second win in three years, while Harrisson got the nod for the first time. The band also took home trophies in the Electric Act of the Year as well as Entertainer of the Year categories. The band has been riding a growing wave of success since the fall of 2015 when it clinched a win at the Montreal Blues Society hosted Quebec to Memphis contest. This secured them a slot at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2016, where they impressed, finishing 2nd worldwide out of a field of 119 competing bands.

Following up on the success of their self-titled album from 2014, The Paul DesLauriers Band’s latest release “Relentless” is “a genuine blues-rock escapade featuring 10 new songs encompassing their most original and powerful work to date”.

Anthony Gomes
Salle La Basoche, 120 Principale, Gatineau QC
Friday, May 26 @ 8 pm; $34.50

Anthony Gomes, #1 Billboard Blues Artist, is a triple threat force as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today.

Gomes has been creating virtuosic, burning blues since his recorded debut in 1998 and is showing no signs of stopping by releasing his most successful album to date. Electric Field Holler, riff-laden and his most rock influenced album yet, has been nominated for Blues Album of the Year and already made several ‘Best Of’ Lists.

Anthony Gomes has headlined concerts in 17 countries and has had the honor of sharing the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Alice Cooper, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Not only has he shared the stage with the likes of B.B. King and Buddy Guy, he also founded the Music is the Medicine Foundation in 2010 a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others through the healing power of music. Through private donations and grants, the foundation has funded song writing scholarships, offered music education programs, and donated musical instruments to those in need. Without passion there is no music; Anthony Gomes gets it… on so many levels!

Gomes sings and plays with integrity and deeply felt emotion oblivious to fortune and fashion.
