Bonnie Raitt
NAC Southam Hall, 1 Elgin Street
Thursday, June 1 @ 8 pm; tickets starting at $80

Best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer, accomplished songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Bonnie Raitt is returning to the National Arts Centre with her ‘Dig in Deep Tour’! The tour celebrates Bonnie’s most recent album “Dig in Deep”, her 20th, featuring her characteristic, incomparable blend of blues, rock, R&B, pop and funk. It also features a healthy dose of the signature slide work from the woman Rolling Stone Magazine named one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." The 10-time Grammy Award winner, an American musical institution known for such hits as “Something to Talk About,” I Can’t Make You Love Me” and "Love Sneakin' Up on You.”

Bonnie was last at the National Artist Centre in 2013, when she enthralled an adoring, capacity audience with her virtuosity. Bonnie Raitt has been the one of the most requested artists that we have presented in recent time. We are pleased to announce, the return of the legendary Bonnie Raitt to the stage of the National Arts Centre, Thursday June 1st, 2017.  This is first date of her cross-Canada tour before she embarks on a summer tour with James Taylor for a series of dates in Classic Old American Baseball Parks, including Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.

Don Washington
with Elise Letourneau, Tim Bedner and Marilee Townsend
Gigspace, 953 Gladstone Avenue
Saturday, June 3; doors @ 7 pm, concert @ 7:30 pm; tickets $20

This will be an exciting concert with a wide array of styles and musical stories: Don Washington, organ/piano/vocals; Elise Letourneau, vocals/flute; Tim Bedner, guitar; and Marilee Townsend, drums.

New York jazz and blues organist-pianist-vocalist Don Washington carries on the tradition of Les McCann, Jimmy Smith, Gil Scott-Heron, and Nina Simone with powerful vocals and piano-organ playing. Don started playing the piano at the age of five. It was a rule in his father’s house that every child learns how to play an instrument and sing. Being the youngest of five children, Don was determined to stand out from the pack, and that he did! In addition to mastering the piano and organ, he learned to play drums, saxophone, tuba, bass, guitar, trumpet and harmonica. Don’s father, the late William M. Washington, groomed his children to be his personal praise and worship team at the Royal Church of God in Christ, in Kent, N.Y. It was during this time that Don learned the vocal and instrumental styles and techniques that would later make him equally comfortable playing uptown swing and down-home blues.

It wasn’t until the early 1990s that Don became interested in the blues. Like many young, black kids, he thought that this music was old, outdated, and just left over from slavery. This thought would soon be changed! In the spring of 1991, Don had a chance to see Buddy Guy perform live at the Penguin Club in Ottawa, Ontario. The performance was so powerful that Don left the show mesmerized. He realized at that moment that his gospel roots gave him the tools he needed to play and sing the blues.

When he’s not performing, Papadon teaches 7-12 vocal and instrumental music at Colton-Pierrepont Central School (Northern New York State) where he shares his passion for blues and jazz with his students.

24th Edition of Virée Blues Moosehead
The Ramblers & Carl Tremblay
Le Petit Chicago, 50 Promenade du Portage, Gatineau QC
Wednesday, May 31 @ 8 pm; $20
(OBS members $15 with membership card)

They launched Viree Blues on the very first show of its very first edition. Then, they performed with Jean Millaire and Andree Dupre on a one-of-a-kind show to launch their 1st album “Bad Boys Blues” on their 10th anniversary while launching Viree Blues 10th edition. And history went on when they brought to an end the 15th edition of Viree Blues with Jim Zeller while launching their 2nd album, “Love Automatic”. And now, with another one-of-a-kind show featuring Living Legend Carl Tremblay, Eric Farran and The Ramblers, also known as “Quebec’s Rolling Stones” will be launching their 3rd opus, “Suicide Blues’.

Thus, it’s in the atmosphere of a Rolling Stones performance, but in a less than 200 capacity bar, with a new album and one of the so few Blues videoclips rotating on Musimax and on V-Tele, that The Ramblers and their famous guest, Carl Tremblay will introduce you to their 3rd album. Sometimes you just have to do what you love, and the Paul DesLauriers Band has been very busy doing just that. The trio is made up of virtuoso guitarist and singer Paul DesLauriers and masterful rhythm section Greg Morency on bass and Sam Harrisson on drums. At this year’s Maple Blues Awards, the members of the rhythm section each picked up awards as Bassist and Drummer of the Year. It was Morency’s second win in three years, while Harrisson got the nod for the first time. The band also took home trophies in the Electric Act of the Year as well as Entertainer of the Year categories. The band has been riding a growing wave of success since the fall of 2015 when it clinched a win at the Montreal Blues Society hosted Quebec to Memphis contest. This secured them a slot at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2016, where they impressed, finishing 2nd worldwide out of a field of 119 competing bands.

Following up on the success of their self-titled album from 2014, The Paul DesLauriers Band’s latest release “Relentless” is “a genuine blues-rock escapade featuring 10 new songs encompassing their most original and powerful work to date”.

Anthony Gomes
Salle La Basoche, 120 Principale, Gatineau QC
Friday, May 26 @ 8 pm; $34.50

Anthony Gomes, #1 Billboard Blues Artist, is a triple threat force as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today.

Gomes has been creating virtuosic, burning blues since his recorded debut in 1998 and is showing no signs of stopping by releasing his most successful album to date. Electric Field Holler, riff-laden and his most rock influenced album yet, has been nominated for Blues Album of the Year and already made several ‘Best Of’ Lists.

Anthony Gomes has headlined concerts in 17 countries and has had the honor of sharing the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Alice Cooper, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Not only has he shared the stage with the likes of B.B. King and Buddy Guy, he also founded the Music is the Medicine Foundation in 2010 a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others through the healing power of music. Through private donations and grants, the foundation has funded song writing scholarships, offered music education programs, and donated musical instruments to those in need. Without passion there is no music; Anthony Gomes gets it… on so many levels!

Gomes sings and plays with integrity and deeply felt emotion oblivious to fortune and fashion.
