Our next guest on Viree Blues Moosehead, renown for
his prized cinematographic musical atmospheres and as ‘side-man’ to the sadly
missed Mr. Bob Walsh, is going back to his roots. Our friend, the harmonica
virtuoso Guy Bélanger who was recently presented with the 2016
Andre-Gagnon award by the SPACQ (Societe professionnelle des auteurs et
compositeurs du Quebec / Quebec’s Professional Composers Society) is renowned
for his sensitivity, his generosity, his talent, an all-around true creator. After
producing four solo albums, the harmonicist-singer keeps on building on this
solid body of work with a new recording which puts forward his strengths for
composing atmospheric and emotional music. He’s highly praised for keeping his
virtuosity sincere.
An inspired, bright show dedicated to our friend, Bob
Walsh (1947-2016) which will present the very best of the gentleman harmonicist
and composer to whom the pleasure of performing has always been so evident for
over 40 years, the launch of Guy Belanger’s latest opus, “Traces &

of self-expression. Traveling from an earnest desire to give more and make
things better to a destination of peace and forgiveness, “Monarch” embodies
an artist moving on with newfound energy, momentum and an understanding of the
past. While forgiveness is free, there are most certainly tolls to pay
along the journey. The songs on “Monarch” cover every mile of that
emotional terrain as they ride through a rich and varied blues landscape
punctuated by Antonik's searing guitar work.

TONY D
Tony D (Diteodoro), guitarist for Juno award-winning band
MonkeyJunk has been laying it down for over thirty years. MonkeyJunk has
amassed twenty Maple Blues awards and a Blues Music Award, (formerly known as
The Handy Awards). At the age of thirteen Tony began his musical journey on the
guitar. Learning mostly in the blues, rock jazz stylings. From Muddy Waters, to
Jimi Hendrix to Jimmy Page, to Albert King to Wes Montgomery and all the points
in between. At the age of nineteen, Tony was given the opportunity to play
rhythm guitar, for three days, for the legendary Buddy Guy. Years later, he had
the prestigious opening slot for the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan at Ottawa’s
NAC. In the early ‘90s having taken a trip to Europe and secured a record deal
out of Holland, Tony became one of the first Canadian blue musician to tour
Europe.
The Blues and anything that falls under that umbrella
being his first love, Tony D has also explored various forms of music. Flamenco
became another obsession and after studying the form for two years he joined a
troupe which made him write pseudo flamenco and Spanish rhythm instrumentals
which he still plays today in his solo shows.

Born in Chiang Mai Thailand, and raised outside of Edmonton, Jenie Thai is building a musical presence throughout the country. Starting at age five, she took private piano lessons for fifteen years. Graduating at seventeen, she continued her musical development, studying classical piano at Augustana University. In 2008, Jenie diversified her education attending Grant MacEwan Jazz and Contemporary Music Program as a performance major. Upon graduation, Jenie was offered a part-time teaching position at Grant MacEwan University and gained acceptance into Paul McCartney’s international music school based in Liverpool.
Jenie Thai represented Northern Alberta as a semi-finalist in the 30th International Blues Challenge held in Memphis. Most recently, she was nominated for a 2016 Maple Blues Award for "Best New Artist of The Year".
Vocally, she has been compared to Eva Cassidy, but soaks in the musical influences of Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, Memphis Slim, and Nina Simone. A performer, song-writer, singer, and instrumentalist, Jenie Thai combines her love of the traditional piano blues, sixties R&B, and great American songwriters to produce a unique charm as a roots and blues musician on the national and international scene.

Doc Yates and the Kings Evil is an Ottawa based band to
keep an eye on. Playing a blend of swampy soul country to a gritty bluesy
rock, the band recently released their first album "Sweat It Out" and
it is getting excellent reviews in college radio across Canada. Now, just
a few months later, they are about to release a new single called ‘Hometown’, a
bluesy country tune about Doc's hometown Woodstock, Ontario and the recent
struggles, job cuts and teen suicides that have been occurring there. All
online sales of the single are being donated to the Ingamo House (Family
Shelter) in Woodstock.

Cheryl Lescom has been part of the Canadian Blues Scene
for over 30 years. Starting off as a back-up singer for Ronnie Hawkins and
Long John Baldry, Cheryl has recorded, toured and performed with the likes of
Jeff Healy, Matt Minglewood, Dutch Mason the Downchild Blues Band and
more. After an absence to raise a family, Cheryl recorded two independent
CDs before taking some time off to recover from a bout with Cancer. Her “High Heeled
Blues” CD features 14 songs including ‘Queen Bee’ written by Juno Award winner
(and the CD’s producer and guitarist) Jack De Keyzer, ‘I Can’t Stand It’
written by Mr. Downchild, Donnie Walsh (who guests on the CD) and ‘Beg Borrow
Steal’ written by Matt Minglewood. The first single ‘Heartache’ features
additional vocals by the Detroit Women and piano from JUNO nominee Julian
Fauth.
When Cheryl teamed up with the Tucson Choir Boys (‘Sameday’
Ray Walsh and Dave The Cat) for an appearance at the Grapejam Acoustic Blues
Festival, the response was phenomenal. After doing a few more gigs
together the decision was made to start writing some original material. After a
year of touring and recording, the “Cheryl Lescom & The Tucson Choir Boys”
CD was released, garnering airplay on blues, pop and roots radio across Canada.

The Commotions have sidestepped the lightweight pop craze
and taken the backroads straight into the hearts of their loyal followers,
earning unwavering support from the true lovers of genuine, unsullied soul
music. This 12-piece, sharply dressed, original throwback to the days of Motown
is an evolved collection of Canada's top funk & jazz players. This band
originally united to provide a Canadian contingent to Funk Brother's (Motown
Records) lead vocalist Delbert Nelson as "Delbert & The
Commotions". The band's Musical Director, Brian Asselin honed his skills
playing with acts such as The Four Tops and The Temptations, and his original
music has been featured on HBO and ABC in the U.S. The Commotions are currently
working with Canadian soul hero Jarvis Church of The Philosopher Kings, Juno
Award winner Steve Marriner of Monkey Junk, Steve Berndt of the Jivewires,
Juno-Nominated saxophonist Petr Cancura, and jazz hero Mark Ferguson. The band
features vocalists Jeff Rogers (Silver Creek and The Cooper Brothers) and
Rebecca Noelle (The PepTides, Rumours, and David Gogo.) With a sonically
monumental performance and an energizing visual display, The Commotions command

Sometimes you just have to do what you love, and the Paul
DesLauriers Band has been very busy doing just that. The trio is made up of virtuoso
guitarist and singer Paul DesLauriers and masterful rhythm section Greg Morency
on bass and Sam Harrisson on drums. At this year’s Maple Blues Awards, the
members of the rhythm section each picked up awards as Bassist and Drummer of
the Year. It was Morency’s second win in three years, while Harrisson got the
nod for the first time. The band also took home trophies in the Electric Act of
the Year as well as Entertainer of the Year categories. The band has been
riding a growing wave of success since the fall of 2015 when it clinched a win
at the Montreal Blues Society hosted Quebec to Memphis contest. This secured
them a slot at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2016, where they
impressed, finishing 2nd worldwide out of a field of 119 competing
bands.
Following up on the success of their self-titled album
from 2014, The Paul DesLauriers Band’s latest release “Relentless” is “a
genuine blues-rock escapade featuring 10 new songs encompassing their most
original and powerful work to date”.
