Gina Sicilia
The Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Monday, August 15 @ 8:30 pm

Considered a true rising star in the blues world ever since her debut album, “Allow Me to Confess”, brought her world-wide acclaim in 2007, Gina manages to raise the bar even further with “The Alabama Sessions”, which she recorded and produced in legendary Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and where she throws down a music gauntlet of soul, power, grit and energy for others to follow. Her songs and performances gracefully cross genres on the new album, too, with echoes of soul, rock and even Americana woven throughout the tapestry of sound she’s created on the new disc, bringing Gina’s music to an even wider audience.

Carl Dixon, who has played with Coney Hatch, The Guess Who and April Wine, remains one of Canada's stellar singers and musicians.  He tours and records extensively as a solo artist, band member and inspirational speaker.

As lead singer for world chart toppers The Guess Who, Carl's world came undone during a high speed car accident in Australia. On a remote rural road Carl was found with 52 injuries including severe head trauma. If he survived Carl was not expected to walk, talk or see again. Carl's presentation takes you from rising rock star to barely clinging to life with traumatic brain injury. Carl Dixon's recovery, re-training of his brain and the reinventing of his career in the cutthroat music world is an inspiring, enthralling presentation. After years in recuperation Carl's story came full circle when he fulfilled his goal and returned to The Guess Who as lead singer for two special shows in 2016.

Carl's powerful 2-hour acoustic show features songs from his career including hits by Canada's rock icons, his own compositions and crowd favourites.

“The Valley Food and Drink Co.” is an Ottawa Valley destination restaurant located inside Calabogie Lodge on the shore of beautiful Calabogie Lake.  The restaurant offers visitors an opportunity to experience Ottawa valley culture, heritage, music and of course food and drink.  Menus have been designed to highlight the diverse cultural nature that created our Ottawa valley heritage.  Recipes have been prepared using wherever possible the freshest ingredients the Valley has to offer, hand-picked from farms, farmer’s markets and local meat producers.   The restaurant is fully licensed and also features local craft beers and Ontario wines.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMING SOON

Terry Gillespie
The Branch, Kemptville ON
Saturday, August 27

Terry Gillespie has been called a musical Shaman, Canada's King of Roots Music and Mr. Groove for good reason - his live performances are fascinating, entertaining and captivating in a way that allows the audience to pay attention and not be distracted from the music by egotistical showmanship and maniacal guitar playing. He is both charismatic and soulful. His guitar is tasteful, his vocals beautifully phrased and he is backed by an energy of sound that pulls people off their chairs and onto the dance floor. Those in attendance at Terry Gillespie shows are part of the show, with each audience member an integral part of the band; they too become one with the music.

Music By The Bay Live presents
Philip Sayce
St. Francis Centre, Ajax ON
Saturday, August 27
            Advance tickets www.musicbythebaylive.com

At 21 Philip Sayce caught the attention of Jeff Healey, and spent the next 4 years as second guitar alongside the guitar master.  Following the lead of a number of talented Canadian artists, Sayce chose to move to the U.S. all the while staying true to his personal quest of following what moves him. Primary among his various L.A. ventures was joining multi Grammy Award winner Melissa Etheridge’s band in 2003. He went on to tour and record with Etheridge over the course of the next five years while continuing to perform and record with his own band.

Combine the head turning guitar skills with expressive vocals delivering on a variety musical style and you get the whole picture – an artist following his heart, making that emotional connection.

Saturday, September 10 @ 9:30 pm; $10

The Jives come into Irene's for a fall performance geared to the college crowd with a run through of our own tunes including songs from our recent release “Drive Me Sane” and the songs placed in the movie “Prisoners Of Time”. We'll end the night with a Vegas style “blue set” by playing our more risqué tunes! The Jives put on a high energy show of original songs inspired by the great "jump blues" artists of the late ‘40s and early ‘50s like Louis Jordan and wild swing masters like Cab Calloway. Friday, September 16 @ 6 pm

Studebaker John Grimaldi was born in Chicago in 1952 and heard the blues firsthand from Big Walter Horton, "One-Armed" John Wrencher, Johnny Littlejohn and other regulars on Maxwell Street. "I can remember a time when you could see Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, he'd play in his own club, Hound Dog Taylor would always be around Maxwell Street. J.B. Hutto, too. Being able to see them perform live was breathtaking. I'm basically self-taught and I'd pick things up by just watching them."

Paul Reddick
Son of Dave
Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield QC
Friday, September 16 @ 8:30 pm

Melding poetry, mystery, darkness and light, along with an extensive knowledge of the history and traditions of blues music is what makes Paul Reddick on of the most popular figures on the blues and roots music scene today. For over 25 years he’s been writing and performing his eclectic brand of blues, bringing the art form to new frontiers with his rapacious, deep vocals, masterful harmonica playing and song writing. As the unofficial poet laureate of Canadian blues, words are his weapon of choice and when he sings, it is near impossible not to listen and get lost within the songs, right alongside him and illustrating what the influential British magazine Mojo described as his “wayward brilliance.”

Son of Dave isn't you're average blues musician. He's an international cult Bluesman on a mission to save your musical soul from atrophy. It would be an easy game, sticking to cliché’s and playing a circuit of guitar-solo lovin', middle-aged divorcees. No disrespect to the working man's blues circuit, but this one-man harmonica & beat-box genius beats his own path, turning rhythm and blues upside down and gathering a huge international army of devoted fans from all walks of life. Son of Dave – born Benjamin Darvill – is half a century old now, and started out in the blues + biker bars of Canadian mid-western city Winnipeg, but has been based in the UK for 20 years. With a CV as long as your arm and a briefcase full of naughty tricks, he is on the road again in 2016 and still hasn't reached top speed. He's a long distance Bluesman, not a quick burner. He'll still be going strong through his next fifty years no doubt. It's YOU that has to catch him before sinking into your old age.

Cecile Doo-Kingué
& Wicked Grin
Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield QC
Saturday, September 17 @ 8:30 pm

An exceptional stage presence, guitarist / singer-songwriter Cécile Doo-Kingué blends blues, afro-roots and soul to create a unique sound. Born and raised in New York City, first generation from Cameroon, she has lived in the USA, France, and is now an adopted Montrealer. Cécile Doo-Kingué isn’t just another token “chick” guitarist; her talents are measured not by gender lines, but by the fact that she is quickly earning a stellar reputation and a place alongside Canada’s current roster of great guitarists. Powerful and raw, Cécile Doo-Kingué’s guitar prowess, lyrics, and sound make for enthralling and intimate communion.

Building on the success of their sophomore album “Shame On Me” released in 2013, and following their 2014 Maple Blues Award for Best New Group, Murray Kinsley & Wicked Grin released “Stormy Water” in November 2015. Featuring 11 road-tested tracks, 10 of which were written by Kinsley, this tight group of experienced musicians have stepped up their game. “Stormy Water” features spirited upbeat, danceable numbers while expanding on the heavier and grittier sound the band has been developing over the past few years. “Stormy Water” was named Best Canadian Blues Rock Album of 2015 by the Blues Underground Network and bassist Leigh-Anne Stanton was named The Maple Blues Awards “Bassist of the Year” for 2015.

Pioneers of the crossover and the mashup, these men give catchy favourites new life with creative arrangements.
