Also appearing at:
Georgian House, Alexandria

UK’s Steve Payne is back: It’s been 3 years since he’s graced us this side of the pond, when his star shone bright at the Mariposa Festival.
Now he’s returned until the end of August, bringing Wales guitar mate Paul Hobday for his July performances.

A powerful roots / blues / boogie duo, performing original compositions in folk / blues clubs and festivals throughout Europe and the UK.
https://www.facebook.com/payneandhobday/info/?tab=overview

STEVE PAYNE
Variously described as one of the UK's most unique and versatile guitarists, Steve Payne is also feted as a talented and unpredictable singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, wordsmith and story-teller whose compositions cross the musical boundaries from Blues to Folk to Contemporary Roots.

One of Britain's best — and most widely travelled — blues, country and roots guitarists and songwriters, Payne has toured Europe with Loudon Wainwright, and performed regularly at the famous (or notorious) Glastonbury Festival, as well as with legends including B.B. King and Dr. John, among others.

Starting in the early ‘70s, blues, R&B, rock, and even punk was on his musical menu; Now his music is quieter and more thoughtful, and he's made several acoustic albums in recent years, mixing blues and country into an intriguing stew of roots influences.

PAUL HOBDAY
Paul Hobday has enjoyed a lifetime as an in-demand session musician, both a live and in-studio guitarist for a wide variety of artists.

From his first band as a teenager with Tom Bailey (who later formed the ‘80s chart-topping Thompson Twins), to his current role as sidekick to Steve Payne, and work with BillyBoy Miskimmin (Yardbirds / Nine Below Zero), Paul has never stopped playing.

In the interim years, he’s worked with Bristol’s top soul band Souled Out, The Ronnies with Ron Rogers (T’Pau), and Ian Rowley (Debbie Bonham), and played on numerous recording sessions.

Paul’s fluid and distinctive style evolves from influences as diverse as Ry Cooder, Albert Lee, Chuck Berry, and Richard Thompson.

In recent years, Paul has returned to his roots, playing blues and R&B with Steve Payne, touring in Europe, playing Festivals and clubs to great acclaim. They are currently working on a second album following the success of their 2015 debut “Raise a Glass”.

With 8 albums, a sway of accolades to his name and 25 years performing, writing and recording, Lloyd Spiegel has certainly squeezed more into 35 years than many do in a lifetime. It’s that unique experience combined with a relentless touring schedule and stage presence well beyond his years that has seen him become a driving force in Australian blues and one of the most respected guitarists in the country.
Two house concerts are planned with Australian Blues Guitarist Lloyd Spiegel. Lloyd has been compared to Matt Andersen and J.P. Cormier. This will be his first tour in Canada. He will play 2 x 45 minute sets with an intermission (and more if the crowd wishes!)
50 tickets are available, at $20 each. Reserve tickets in advance by email: sarah@portertalent.ca

"“Left With The Blues” veers from soulful ballads to jumpy blues numbers that ignite sparks like metal on flint. This is a robust blues album that leaves an impression.” Invisible Ink

"With a title like “Left With The Blues” that’s what I was expecting to pull from this batch of songs, but there is so much going on here I was delighted as each track grabbed me and took on some really cool, unexpected side trips. This is a perfect album". - Written by John The Rock Doctor Kereiff

"Packed with enough soul and energy to fill a couple of albums, Andre and his big band will satisfy all your musical cravings". - Hamilton Blues

Gina Sicilia
The Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Monday, August 15 @ 8:30 pm

Considered a true rising star in the blues world ever since her debut album, “Allow Me to Confess”, brought her world-wide acclaim in 2007, Gina manages to raise the bar even further with “The Alabama Sessions”, which she recorded and produced in legendary Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and where she throws down a music gauntlet of soul, power, grit and energy for others to follow. Her songs and performances gracefully cross genres on the new album, too, with echoes of soul, rock and even Americana woven throughout the tapestry of sound she’s created on the new disc, bringing Gina’s music to an even wider audience.

Music By The Bay Live presents
Philip Sayce
St. Francis Centre, Ajax ON
Saturday, August 27
            Advance tickets www.musicbythebaylive.com

At 21 Philip Sayce caught the attention of Jeff Healey, and spent the next 4 years as second guitar alongside the guitar master.  Following the lead of a number of talented Canadian artists, Sayce chose to move to the U.S. all the while staying true to his personal quest of following what moves him. Primary among his various L.A. ventures was joining multi Grammy Award winner Melissa Etheridge’s band in 2003. He went on to tour and record with Etheridge over the course of the next five years while continuing to perform and record with his own band.

Combine the head turning guitar skills with expressive vocals delivering on a variety musical style and you get the whole picture – an artist following his heart, making that emotional connection.

Being able to see them perform live was breathtaking. I'm basically self-taught and I'd pick things up by just watching them."
