The 22nd
edition of Virée
Blues Boréale presents
Jo Hell & the Red Roosters
Le Petit Chicago,
50 Promenade du Portage, Gatineau QC
Wednesday, October 28 @ 8 pm
A Star-feature on Virée Blues Boréale’s very
beginnings, he won the hearts of the region’s Blues fans on his very first
performance. Jo Hell, now a
Texas resident, gets to be on stage 7 days a week, mainly on Austin’s 6th
Avenue where he had the opportunity to play his guitar beside bassist Tommy
Shannon (Double Trouble, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter), to talk Blues with
Buddy Guy, with the late B.B. King and with Chris Layton (Double Trouble,
Stevie Ray Vaughan), and to perform on stage with, among others, the late
famous piano great Pinetop Perkins (Muddy Waters), with guitarist Alan
Haynes, with the late Hubert Sumlin (Howlin’ Wolf), with the late Uncle John
Turner (Johnny Winter) and with the late famous drummer Buddy Miles (Jimmy
Hendrix)! These learning experiences allowed the band to progress to a
more refined, mature and clearer sound, but always as powerful and frenzied,
fitted for the best Texas Roadhouses. Unfortunately, this makes it much
more difficult to visit with us as much as he and the fans wish.
This is one of the most sought after bands at Virée Blues
Boréale; they are grateful and so, make sure to reward this wait. By
popular demand, after a delay of more than four years, and for a sixth
performance at Virée
Blues Boréale, the first since 2007, the Original of Jo Hell & The Red Roosters.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU 2015/16
Blues On The Rideau is a Dinner and Show Fundraiser Series that has been running at The Cove Country Inn in Westport, Ontario for the past 10 years. The shows start in September and run once a month through to May (December excluded) and feature some of the best Blues bands in Canada (and a few American ones too). It has come to be recognized as one of the premier Blues Series in Canada. Every show is a fundraiser for a different local charity. To date the Series has raised over $55,000. The goal for this season is another $5K.
The Cove Inn is located in the beautiful village of Westport on Upper Rideau Lake - about a 90 minute drive from Ottawa, 45 minutes from Kingston. All BOTR shows run from 7 to 11 pm and include a delicious full course buffet dinner. The staff at The Cove are very friendly and the venue is small, intimate and relaxed. After dinner you get to see and dance to the bands up close and personal – the way Blues is best enjoyed – all for a very reasonable price – $65 (plus tax). There are door prize giveaways at every show and 2 Grand Prizes drawn at the end of the season from all of the Comment Cards filled in by attendees over the year.
ADVANCE RESERVATIONS are required and it is wise to
book well ahead especially if you want to stay overnight. Rooms at The
Cove and nearby B&Bs and motels frequently sell out for Blues nights. Call
The Cove at 613-273-3636 or 1-888-COVEINN to reserve.
More info on the Series, including Bios, LINKS to
websites and YOU TUBES of all the artists can be found at www.BluesOnTheRideau.ca

Like a beat up old
Dodge burning down the highway with a brand new set of rims and a candy

nouveau-retro-style, inspired by sweaty sounds and throbbing rhythms, all
performed with deep intensity, wild conviction, greasy organ, sweet
tremolo-soaked guitar, and heartbreaking harmonies.
These young Soulstack men stand by their beat-up vintage instruments and bleed every ounce of emotion from them – taking the listener on a rhythmic and melodic journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the exhaust-tinged fuzz of Detroit with award winning engineer Jeremy Darby (Smokey Robinson, Keith Richards, Prince.)
Soulstack was formed in 2011 by frontman Jonathan Knight and keyboardist Mark Wessenger. The band consists of Maple Blues Award-winning drummer Tom Bona, bass Darryl ‘Harpo’ Peterson and baritone guitarist Chris Latta.

profiles and reviews of recordings on particular labels. In the second hour there is a blues calendar,
a rundown of events in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, and interviews with “new
and reissued blues and rhythm and blues tracks on wax”, alternating with “live
blues and R&B for a Sunday night” in the last half hour of the show. On the
