For the evening show, the band turned up the heat a few notches and rocked the hill, much to the excitement of over 50,000 in attendance. Soulstack
The Bar(n), North Gower ON
Sunday, September 27, 4-8 pm
Private party – tickets in advance
Contact Angel or Mike Turenne on Facebook

Like a beat up old Dodge burning down the highway with a brand new set of rims and a candy metallic paint job, Soulstack carves out their modern roots music in nouveau-retro-style, inspired by sweaty sounds and throbbing rhythms, all performed with deep intensity, wild conviction, greasy organ, sweet tremolo-soaked guitar, and heartbreaking harmonies.

These young Soulstack men stand by their beat-up vintage instruments and bleed every ounce of emotion from them – taking the listener on a rhythmic and melodic journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the exhaust-tinged fuzz of Detroit with award winning engineer Jeremy Darby (Smokey Robinson, Keith Richards, Prince.)

Soulstack was formed in 2011 by frontman Jonathan Knight and keyboardist Mark Wessenger. The band consists of Maple Blues Award-winning drummer Tom Bona, bass Darryl `Harpo` Peterson and baritone guitarist Chris Latta.

The 22nd edition of Virée Blues Boréale presents
Steve Rowe CD release “The Urban Bluesman”
            with special guest Jim Zeller
Le Petit Chicago, 50 Promenade du Portage
Wednesday, September 23 @ 8 pm;

A header on the program of the very first edition of Virée Blues Boréale in 2005 with The Ramblers, Steve Rowe has been a favourite of Virée Blues Boréale’s audiences on each of his appearances, because of the acuteness of his compositions where original Blues blends with today’s ‘Power Blues’; some true Blues with a foot on the international threshold. A sixth album, a career of more than thirty years, at 60, this prolific singer-songwriter is offering us a gift with the launch of an anthology opus, “The Urban Bluesman”. And to further enhance this event, a most famous guest, the ‘enfant terrible’ of the Blues, a full-blast showman, a true long-time friend, the great Jim Zeller, our Jimmy Hendrix of the harmonica. He appears on the album and will join Steve on stage. Virée Blues Boréale presents the shuffle of Chicago Blues of the ‘50s with the ‘60s British style Blues, wisdom and excess come together on your stage, to launch “The Urban Bluesman”.

Sadly Danny Brooks & Lil' Miss Debi are unable to perform at Blues On The Rideau at The Cove Inn, Westport ON this Friday, Sept 25 as originally planned due to last minute, unforeseen U.S. Immigration issues.

However - as much as we are saddened that they can't make it we are pleased to announce that The Memphis Brothers are still coming - Bucky Berger on drums, Dennis Pinhorn on bass and Papa John King on guitar - all multiple Maple Blues Award winners/nominees - and the lovely and talented Miss Robin Banks (3X Maple Blues Award nominee for Best Female Vocalist) will be joining them on lead vocals. Robin has played The Cove several times in the past and everyone who has seen her knows what a great voice she has and what a terrific show she puts on - so it's still going to be a great night of Blues to kick off the 2015/16 BOTR season!

MAM presents their new show
Human Swing Box
La Grange de la Gatineau, 80 chemin Summer, Cantley QC
Thursday, October 1 @ 8 pm; $20

The swing in the era of modern music or when the violin and the accordion swing with a
human beat-box and keyboards.

Viviane Arnoux and François Michaud have happily collaborated since 1992. Their
meeting created the need to come up with an original music project that transcended
the traditional roles of accordion, violin (or viola) and voice. François Michaud, (violin,
viola) left Québec very young; he dragged his violin through various continents and
music conservatories, grabbed a viola along the way, africanized his classical sound
and jazzified his folk music. He is one of the two founding members of MAM. He directs
the Loué music school, where he also teaches. He gives workshops for children and
master classes. He has produced 9 CDs as main artist and many more as collaborator.
Viviane Arnoux, (accordion, voice) started playing accordion at 4 years old. She is the
other founding member of MAM. She was accordionist for Hughes Aufray. She teaches
accordion at the Hohner school and also gives workshops for children and master
classes. She composes songs and music for shorts films and collaborates on many
international artists' CDs.

This new piece “Human Swing Box” is the result of much reflection and research on
sounds, caused by the need to participate in the evolution of our culture, ever changing.
Since 2007 and the album Meddled Times MAM has been working on the concept of
time and its influence on artists, catalysts of the emotions and sensations that their era
induces. New Time came out in 2011, as a logical sequence, with Norbert Lucarain,
who plays the repertoire on stage, as a human beat-box and on the keyboards, in a
bright and unrestrained manner. “Human Swing Box” arises from the extension of this
collaboration, while finally being able to record an album with him, as a necessity when
we need to lay a solid base in a time when we are losing our cultural references. Hence
the return to swing, organic and punctuated by the “box”, which pounds our robotic
tendencies, symbol of the contemporary progress of humanity. MAM, you may know
from having seen and listened to Jazz in my musette or Paris Village, or with the New
York Fab. But with Norbert Lucarain from General Elektriks, they sure make us swing
and transport us into their world of energetic and imaginative compositions. Unbridled
music! Standards definitely revisited!

The 24th Street Wailers
Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Saturday, October 24 @ 9:30 pm

Experienced, road-tested and tougher than a two by four, The 24th Street Wailers are five musicians whose major influence is the sounds from the freewheeling period in the ‘40s and ‘50s when the Blues gave birth to Rock and Roll in black communities in major American cities. When showmanship mattered. When the sax player, not the guitarist, got the girls.
“We’re just trying to restore faith in what the Blues and Rock and Roll were meant to be.”
**********

Saturday, October 24 @ 9:30 pm; $10

“I’m combining all elements of my 46 years of playing,” said Stubblefield. “My style’s kind of all over the place so it’s not a jam band, or jazz or funk necessarily, but it has all those elements.”
Ike Stubblefied is more than just a performer, he’s an artist in the true sense of the word, and whether writing, producing or composing, he is always working to perfect his art.

Friday, October 16

Jennis brings together award-winning Guelph-based Dennis Gaumond’s decades of experience writing and performing original blues and folk and the diverse musical experiences of veteran Toronto indie-scene multi-instrumentalist Jen Gillmor. The unique blend of cello and dobro is also augmented by unusual sounds, such as a didgeridoo, custom-tuned harmonics, flute, wau-guitar, jaw harp and wazinator. It makes for a very entertaining peroformance, filled with energy, passion and humour. Their rootsy sound is at times bluesy, at times funky, jazzy or folky, with a hind of exotic ethnic influences.

Ike Stubblefield
RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Friday, October 23

Hammond B3 virtuoso Ike Stubblefield is a music industry legend. With almost 50 years in the business, you may think he’s seen and done it all, but he’s just getting started.
