Paul Reddick
Irene’s Pub, 885 Bank Street
Saturday, August 1

Paul Reddick’s music is rooted in the blues but his most recent release, “Wishbone”, is a portrait of a wandering musician …. His songs – sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, always thought-provoking and rarely sentimental  - and the passionate way he delivers them best illustrates what the influential British magazine Mojo described as his “wayward brilliance”.

Juno and Blues Music Award nominee, he is a seven-time Maple Blues Award winner and continues to tour with his hard-hitting band.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU
2015/16 LINE-UP

Blues On The Rideau – the Dinner and Show Fundraiser Series that has been running at The Cove Country Inn in Westport, Ontario for the past 10 years and is now recognized as one of the premier Blues Series in Canada – is pleased to announce its 2015/16 Line-Up. The shows start in September and run once a month through to May (December excluded). It’s another all star cast of some of Canada’s best Blues bands with a mix of popular returnees and a couple of new bands that have never played BOTR before. As in previous years every show is a fundraiser for a different local charity. To date the Series has raised over $55,000. The goal for this season is another $5K.

All BOTR shows run from 7 to 11 pm and include a delicious full course buffet dinner served by the Cove’s friendly staff. The venue is small, intimate and relaxed. After dinner you get to see and dance to world class Blues bands up close and personal – the way Blues is best enjoyed – all for a very reasonable price – $65 (plus tax). There are door prize giveaways at every show and 2 Grand Prizes drawn at the end of the season.  ADVANCE RESERVATIONS are required and it is wise to book well in advance, especially if you want to stay overnight. Rooms at The Cove and nearby B&Bs and motels frequently sell out for Blues nights. Call 613-273-3636

Note that there has been a small increase in price this year – $5 - the first in 5 years – to help cover cost increases over that time. And there is a new Reservation Policy in place this year – a credit card number is required with the reservation (although the card is not charged until the night of the show). Cancellations or changes in the reservation can be made up to a week prior to the event without penalty. After that time those than don’t show – or come with fewer than reserved for – will be charged for those seats – although a credit will be applied for a future show that season (space available) if there is a legitimate reason. The new policy has been implemented due to the number of "no-shows" over the past several years which, in many cases, has prevented others who would like to see that show from attending.

Fundraiser for Thandi Klaasen
& Pig Roast – Country Style
Scherer Gardening, 1535 Dalkeith Road, Dalkeith ON
Friday, July 24; doors @ 6 pm; music @ 7:30 pm; $25 at the door

Lorraine Klaasen 2013 Juno Award Winner http://www.lorraineklaasen.com/ & Terry Gillespie 'Canada's King Of Roots Music' are collaborating on a Fundraiser for Thandi Klaasen, Premier Diva of South Africa.

Thandi suffered a stroke last year and needs our help. She sang her way through apartheid and was a role model to many of South Africa's people. To celebrate her strength and leadership not to mention her outstanding musicianship Klaasen has been awarded South Africa's Order of the Baobab in Silver (2006) for "excellent achievement in and contribution to the art of Music". In August 2013, as part of the Women's Month celebrations, Klaasen and four other icons of South African jazz – Abigail Kubheka, Dorothy Masuka, Sathima Bea Benjaminand Sylvia Mdunyelwa – were honoured by Standard Bank with lifetime achievement awards. Other awards she has received include the Woman of Distinction Award received in Canada (1999), and a lifetime achievement award at the 2006 South African Music Awards.

We will be hosting the Fundraiser as a 'Sunset Show' at Scherer Gardens, 2014 & 2015 winners of The Ottawa Home & Garden Show's 'Best Garden' award. Some features on site are the spectacular rock water fountain gardens and miniature Sika deer pastured behind the stage. You will be surrounded by mature trees and moonlight, listening to two of the best Canadians in their genre. It will be a night of jazz, African music and blues performed by well schooled musicians who thoroughly enjoy their craft. We thought it would be the perfect place to host a Sunset Show! Photographs and videos along with dancing are encouraged!

For even more fun and your dining pleasure Lisa Scherer of The Granary Beizli will be preparing a scrumptious Pig Roast – an old school country tradition when friends and neighbours gather (not included in entrance price).

We suggest you bring a lawn chair and a friend. It will be a memorable evening. Please plan to attend.

Expect some down ‘n' dirty singing from all three of them. We are stoked to watch how these three amazing artists and multi-talented "music royalty" work their concern over the eternal 12 bars - Committed to the style and feel of the original performers, with a little bit of their own flavour thrown in for good measure, this trio is guaranteed to get you movin' in all the right places. Drop in often because no two nights will be the same. Special guests will sit in regularly, making it a melting pot for great talent in this city, all of this with one purpose in mind... your total enjoyment!
