The Soul Clappers
Bar Le Petit Chicago, 50 Promenade du Portage (Old-Hull), Gatineau QC
Wednesday, May 27 @ 8 pm; tickets $20
Ottawa Blues Society with membership card $15

The Blues and the Soul, it’s a state of mind, it’s the music of the soul. Masterfully led by a local guy, Remi Cormier on trumpet and artistic direction, The Soul Clapper are made up of 7 top passionate and talented performers with an already impressive track record. Formerly known as The Remington Blues Band (featuring Jason Remington Ford, son of Patsy Gallant as lead singer) the band is changing its name and lead singer and is leaving aside corporate performances to get on stage and present their very own Blues Soul.

The Soul Clappers are:
Remi Cormier – trumpet – is Musical director and arranger for the band and is its mainstay; he brought the band members together, working wonders to get spectacular results!

Alexander Oliver – vocals – was born in Montreal from Haïtian roots. Trained in his early years in a Montreal Gospel choir, he’s got the Soul in his blood.

Alex Dodier – saxophone – is originally from the Sherbrooke region and is a Jazz aficionado who started learning the saxophone at age 9

Emile Farley – bass – became interested in the electric bass at age 12 and studied Jazz performance.

Felix Le Blanc – keyboard – is a true Jazz and pop music enthusiast who composes and performs with his own band, The Felix LeBlanc Quartet.

Jeff Moseley – guitar – started to seriously study the guitar getting private lessons at age 10. He went on to improve his knowledge at CEGEP de Drummondville and tried his hand at each and every musical color: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Classical, Manouche as well as music from the Balkans, in Eastern Europe.

Maxime Reed – drums – studied Jazz at CEGEP Marie-Victorin (Christian Pamerleau) and drumming with Bernard Primeau, Tony Albino and Sam Harrisson (The Paul Deslauriers Band).

The Soul Clappers is an exceptional band with contagious energy. Their repertoire includes major hits of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Cee-Lo Green and of many others to complete their original tunes. Betcha that you won’t resist stomping and even dancing!

Ben Kunder
The Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Tuesday, June 2 @ 8 pm; $5

His voice fills your heart and keeps you warm. Ben Kunder writes songs for everyone. Trained as an actor and musical theatre performer, Ben has a way of breaking down the fourth wall and connecting with people. His powerful voice is a driving force in his music, guiding his songs by creating impressive and tactful melodies and dynamics. His voice and songs have been equated to the likes of Jim James, Ryan Adams and Jackson Browne.

Ben has been writing and producing his music independently for over 8 years, and to make records, has had many opportunities to work, get his hands dirty and appreciate the beautiful struggle. A handyman and carpenter, Ben has lived all across this beautiful country, from his solar powered cabin on Salt Spring Island, BC, where he spent his days chopping wood and chasing deer from the garden, to living in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, working at the Confederation Centre for the Arts.

Now, Ben is back to where he started his journey in his hometown of Toronto. His new album “Golden”, coproduced with John Dinsmore of Lincoln County Social Club and NQ Arbuckle was released on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Martin Hury
The Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Wednesday, June 3 @ 8:30 pm; $7

Martin Hury is a blues guitarist/vocalist originally from Argentina, now based in Canada. His blues trio, called the Martin Hury Blues Combo, features some great blues and rock and roll influences such as Freddie King, Albert King, Brian Setzer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Ronnie Earl and Duke Robillard – to name a few.  Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Martin first picked up the guitar at 15 and gravitated immediately to blues. As the years passed, he began incorporating jazz and rockabilly into his playing, creating his own unique style. Martin was an important sideman in several blues bands up until 2011, when he decided to step out and lead his own project. With a solid command of the guitar and the stage, Martin quickly established himself as a strong leader.

Martin’s music encompasses his voice in Spanish/English with extraordinary American Blues sounds and chords in an innovative and singular way. His talent stretches through his songs as well as his control of the electric guitar which is characterized as an original fusion between the blues from southern USA.

E.B. Anderson & The Resolutes,
Torero, & The Vaudevillian
The Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Friday, June 12 @ 9 pm; $10

E.B. Anderson & The Resolutes have a deep sound. Their diversity comes from a vintage country foundation, a keen sense of blues, and songwriting skills that catch the ear of even the most hardcore folk fans. Coming from rural Nova Scotia origins, and currently working the Halifax roots music scene- their sophomore album “Broken Down Horse” was released by Let's Riot! Music in 2013.

Bringin' that sultry sound home, Torero is an up and coming rock and roll band from Toronto blending elements of country westerns and roots rock. Twangy guitars, thumpin bass, a slick groove, and the kind of give-it-your-all vocals that gets your heart pumpin - Torero brings their audience a powerful live show. Expect to see Torero make waves this year with their unique brand of roots rock.

Brendan J Stephens and Willow Walker are 1920s blues singers in the flesh. Hitchhiking between raucous house shows, rowdy bars and busking everywhere in between, they have crafted a way of singing both their own material and songs near one hundred years old in a way entirely their own.

Bobby Thompson Project
The Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Sunday, June 28 @ 8 pm; $15

Awe-inspiring master guitarist and vocalist Bobby Thompson is no stranger to the blues and rock world.  He cut his teeth learning to play in the old blues clubs of D.C. from the likes of Bobby Parker.  After honing his craft as a much sought after support man, Thompson decided to step out as a solo artist, releasing three albums since 2011.  A recent review from Roots Music Report claims Thompson’s songs portray "muscular blues- and soul-rock strong on soulful vocals and cut-above-the-norm originals."  With his smooth, gripping vocal stylings and his perfect musical taste on anything with a string, Thompson is what’s referred to as a “musician’s musician.  Considered a “must see” act of the Northeast region, Bobby was nominated for the D.C area Musician of the Year award in 2015.

The Bobby Thompson Project is his latest collaboration with New Orleans groove master Jeff Mills and Mississippi bass extraordinaire Danny Infante.  This trio is wrought with deep emotion and blazes down the path pioneered by the great Jimi Hendrix, blending deeply-rooted blues traditions with a popular rock edge to create a sound that will stir every soul.
