His latest release, “Bluesprints” from last May sounds much closer to his roots as he explores older repertoires in a modern style. In “Bluesprints”, Adam Karch brilliantly takes apart some of the major works from his musical world, without pretension and moving aside from modern overproduction … simply, classics without artifice, brought back to their most important basics, from Lou Reed to Leadbelly without leaving aside Springsteen and even the Bee Gees!

New York City. 1922. Yank has spent his life shovelling coal on an ocean liner. Brutish, powerful and commanding, he knows where he belongs: in the stokehold. But when the daughter of a wealthy industrialist decides to slum it and see life below deck, Yank’s universe changes forever. Unable to forget the way she looked at him, Yank hits the booming streets of New York to seek revenge. With unflinching theatrical force and explosive lyricism, Eugene O’Neill explores the tragedy of a forgotten voice and the perennial human need to belong.

Virée Blues Boréale presents
Whisky Legs
Le Petit Chicago, 50 promenade du Portage, Gatineau (Old Hull) QC
Wednesday, April 8 @ 8 pm; Tickets $20;
Ottawa Blues Society with membership card - $15
Dinner & show package available at Galo Piri Piri Restaurant www.galopiripiri.com

The warm and powerful voice of their lead singer, their heavy pounding Blues with Soul-tinged groove sure makes them THE Blues Discovery of this year! And that’s exactly what they are, being nominated as "Revelation Band of the Year" and "Female Blues Artist of the Year" at 2015 Lys Blues Awards.

Based in the heart of Quebec City’s famous St-Roch neighbourhood, Whisky Legs is immersed in a passionate surrounding, cast in an alloy of power and sensitivity. With a definite ‘60s aura adorned with a modern touch, the band amalgamates the groove and deepness of the Soul with the thrill and ease of Blues Rock. Their music displays a spirit of rebellion while steeped in a touch of mystery. Born in la Belle Province, their inspiration stems from here and elsewhere as well.

Less than two years after their 2013 debut, Whisky Legs is on a roll. They’ve already played more than 100 shows (such as Tremblant Blues Festival and the now closed Cabaret du Capitole). They also earned the "tournée coup de coeur" award by the ROSEQ and now, two nominations to the 2015 Lys Blues 2015, gala to take place in May. Their first EP, “Have A Shot”, which sold more than 1000 copies in just a few months, leads to expectations for a great new album now in the making and expected out later this year. At the helm of the band, Maude Brochu (Lead Vocalist) forms the heart of the project in synchronicity with triple threat Pascal Denis (drums, guitar and vocals) with whom she's been collaborating for six years. The band is rounded out by old friend and guitarslinger extraordinaire Guillaume Methot (guitars and vocals) and now with the hot new comer Louis Fernandez joining (bass, guitar and vocals).

A report on Kingstown NEW Mississippi’s Good Friday show in Kingston:
EMERGENCY CREW called into a very popular bar in Kingston in the wee hours of Good Friday to replace the dance floor.
According to a spokesperson for the establishment, it was definitely NOT an act of vandalism. They said "absolutely! the crime was a result of enthusiastic dancing that just wore the floor into oblivion. The band Kingstown NEW Mississippi played such danceable music, the patrons (including myself) couldn't help ourselves, it was so much fun!!!!"
Asked if the bar would invite Kingstown NEW Mississippi back again after what happened? their response was: "are you kidding, yes, yes, yes, in a heartbeat."

A Tribute To Etta James
Backed by the Chris Whiteley / Diana Braithwaite Band, a team of multi award winners and nominees: Dawn Tyler Watson, Diana Braithwaite, Cheryl Lescom, and Erin McCallum join forces to sing the praises (literally) of the ultimate Blues Mama, Etta James. This not to be missed homage will be kicked off by the ladies in question performing their own respective sets. Of note, Dawn Tyler Watson will be backed by The Gary Kendall Band.

A Tribute To The Three Kings
Jack de Keyzer’s outstanding band will perform back–up duties for this exceptional acknowledgment of the works of B.B., Albert, and Freddie King. Putting their own spin on the Kings’ various offerings will be Jack de Keyzer, Paul Deslauriers, Jon Knight and Danny Marks. Setting the stage for this phenomenal tribute The Paul Deslauriers Band will get things started followed by Jack de Keyzer.

Similar tributes have taken place at one time or another. What sets this presentation apart is that it provides the opportunity to experience selections that have shaped the Blues performed by top musicians on the scene on one weekend under one roof.

Three specific tributes, great songs, dazzling performances delivered by outstanding musicians. ‘Nuff said.

Molly Johnson sings Billie Holiday
National Arts Centre Theatre, 53 Elgin Street
Friday, May 1 @ 7:30 pm; tickets starting @ $29

Ask her about the frequent comparisons to Billie Holiday, and Molly Johnson will tell you: she’s not like Billie Holiday, she is because of Billie Holiday and the hard-won battles of an earlier generation of women and men. Molly’s most recent album, “Because of Billie”, is her tribute to Holiday’s heartbreaking childhood, and a portion of the CD’s revenues have gone to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada.

An award-winning and internationally acclaimed singer, and tireless philanthropist, Molly debuted at the tender age of four in Ed Mirvish’s Porgy and Bess and has continued to make her mark in theatre, rock, funk, disco, jazz, broadcasting, and charity work. Joined by Robi Botos (piano) and Terry Clarke (drums), Molly’s smoky voice brings her own brand of sweetness and desire to Holiday’s songs, while never failing to invoke pure Holiday like no one else.

Greenfield's Pub, 900 Greenbank Road, Barrhaven
Saturday, May 9 @ 7 pm; $ 20.00 (cash only)

Featuring the music of:
Terry Gillespie and The Granary Blues Band with Brian Monty on guitar, Stephen Barry on bass, Jody Golick on sax, Martin Boodman on harmonica, Ted Gerow on keys and Gordon Adamson on drums
The Phoenix Big Band (Ottawa) http://www.thephoenixbigband.com
Seven seasoned musicians hailing from Barbados, England, Silesia, and across Canada with an abiding love for traditional blues and R&B, leavened with touches of jazz and reggae have been professional part-time players from their youths.
MTL (Montreal) - Blending Rock, Pop and R&B styles with tight harmonies, MTL brings out the best with their interpretation of classics from the 70's 80's and 90's. MTL’s 8 member ensemble has been performing together for over 7 years, and they are dedicated to giving back to the community through music, playing at benefits, charity fundraisers and other special events.

Brian Monty, a guitar maker as well as a musician (guitar player as well as singer), was diagnosed in 2010 with Stage IV Laryngeal cancer caused by the HPV virus. On April 6, 2011 he underwent a total laryngectomy and neck dissection, leaving him without vocal cords and a total neck breather, followed by 6 weeks of radiation. Thanks to the excellent care he received from Dr. Andre Lamothe, Dr. Berndt Esche and the wonderful team of nurses, speech pathologists, physiotherapists etc. etc. at the Ottawa General Hospital he is now back making his guitars (www.montyguitars.com) and playing music.

He decided that it was time to give back to the Ear, Nose, and Throat Cancer Clinic of Dr. Lamothe by using his music connections and do a fundraiser for them. The first Say Ahh fundraiser was held April 6, 2014 and $ 5,000.00 was raised which was 100% donated to the Ear, Nose, Throat Cancer Clinic of the Ottawa Hospital.

Brian decided to make this an annual event; May 9, 2015 will be another evening of celebration of life through singing and music. We hope again to be able to make a difference for the Ear, Nose, and Throat Cancer Clinic.

Special Custom Made Guitar Event
International renowned luthier Brian Monty has designed a very special and unique guitar to raffle-off as another way to raise funds for this event. It is a semi-hollow electric guitar with unique colouring utilizing the symbolic colours of the ‘Head and Neck Cancer’ logo with the cancer ribbon decorating the headstock. Tickets for the raffle will cost $10 and will be available at the event. The raffle will take place at 10 pm and you have to be present to win.

John is a Living Legend and has been giving the Lifetime Achievement Award many times. He is a Grammy Nominated Blues Artist and is one of the last Traditional Blues Artists with original Mississippi roots. He was taught by our founding fathers of the Blues, the old way (some say, “the right way”). We need to cherish his history and celebrate his amazing music!

The Vaudevillian
The Standeasy @ the RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Friday, May 8

Brendan J. Stephens and Willow Walker are 1920s blues singers in the flesh. Hitchhiking between raucous house shows, rowdy bars and busking everywhere inbetween, they have crafted a way of singing both their own material and songs near one hundred years old ina way entirely their own.

Soulstack
The Standeasy @ the RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Saturday, May 23

Deep, inescapable grooves, swampy tremolo-soaked guitars, gritty-voiced harmonies… That is the soul tradition, those are the footprints that Soulstack follows in...
Soulstack was formed in 2011 by frontman Jonathan Knight (Wickens-Knight) and keyboardist Mark Wessenger. The band consists of drummer Tom Bona, and bassists Darryl ‘Harpo’ Peterson and Josh Knight baritone Guitarist Chris Latta.

Their 2012 Debut release “Big Red” garnered outstanding critical reviews. The band received 2014 Maple Blues Award nominations for Electric Act of the Year and Drummer of the Year and was nominated for an Independent Music Award (IMA) for 2013. “Five Finger Discount” is Soulstack’s sophomore album, combining poignant lyricism and sweet vocal harmony with the rhythm and grit of traditional blues. Self-produced, it tracks the organic evolution of the band as it continues growing in musical breadth and depth. http://www.soulstackmusic.com/
