SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEK
****************************************
The Claytones
            opening for Chic Gamine
Shenkman Arts Centre, Orleans ON
Thursday, October 3 @ 8 pm; tickets $27.50

Wall-of-sound harmonies, hip-shaking beats – these women seem straight out of Motown, until you throw in the curveball of French pop and four rotating lead-singers

About The Claytones
Born in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, The Claytones masterfully spin their melodic, vocal driven, Canadiana brand of roots music with old school sensibilities. A true collaborative project, Kelly Prescott, Anders Drerup, Adam Puddington and newcomer Pat McLaughlin write and arrange their songs together, effectively making The Claytones sound the sum of its parts. Combining their ranging influences, they have created a unique blend of original and interpreted songs performed with tight, three-part harmonies and a warm stage presence.

From Kelly:  We'll be opening for our insanely talented friends, Chic Gamine Oct. 3rd at the Shenkman Arts Centre. They are one of our favourite bands in the WORLD right now, you do not want to miss this show! Check them out and get your tickets ASAP. Do it. Trust me. Seriously.”

Stephen Fearing Debut Photo Collection
BETWEEN THE RUMBLE STRIPS
Guild Galerie 240, 240 Guigues Street
Saturday & Sunday, October 5-6; 2-6 pm

*I was thinking of calling the show "Between The Rumble Strips". It's a line from a pretty well-known song of mine "Black Silk Gown" - Driving through to midnight, between the rumble strips... and will be the title of one of the images. It also ties in with my new album - "Between Hurricanes". (Stephen Fearing)
Stephen will be in attendance.

20 Feet From Stardom
Monday, September 30 @ 9:05 pm
Tuesday, October 1 @ 4:45 pm

20 Feet From Stardom probes the question of who’s got the power in the music industry by tracking the careers of a handful of talented back-up singers: Darlene Love of Blossoms fame; Merry Clayton, famous for her vocals on the Rolling Stones’ ‘Gimme Shelter’; Claudia Lennear, another Stones collaborator; and others.
In some cases, exceptional gifts, even when recognized, do not a star make. Lisa Fischer, who has a three-octave-plus range, won a Grammy for her first solo record but lacked the ego and controlling personality required to pursue stardom. Love was victimized by power-tripping producer Phil Spector, who used her vocals while attributing them to others. Clayton, whose vocal chops are unique, failed as a solo artist. Same goes for Lennear and Táta Vega, artists with voices that might have catapulted them to stardom.  Spectacular voices, powerful stories, in a must-see doc.  (Susan G. Cole, NOW Toronto)

ByTowne Cinema and CKCU are screening concert and documentary films every Monday (repeated Tuesdays on some weeks) for as long as interest continues.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU – 2013-14
****************************************
The 9th year for what has become one of the most popular Blues Series in Canada, the first BOTR show takes place October 25, then one show a month (December excluded) right through to May. As in the past all BOTR Shows are fundraisers for different Westport charities. To date over $45,000 has been raised and the goal this year is to hit another $5,000.

For the third season in a row, despite higher costs and inflation, the price for these nights is staying the same - $60 (plus HST) which includes a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet served up by The Cove, the Show, dancing and a donation to charity. Being able to hold the price is due in part to the support of our new Sponsor – Dan Aykroyd Wines
DanAykroydWines.com – for which we are very grateful and we welcome them on board. 101.9 DAWG FM Ottawa www.dawgfm.com also continues as a Sponsor and again, we are very grateful for their support.
