As one of Canada's hardest working and most
prolific blues guitar virtuosos, David Gogo has amassed a worldwide fanbase and
an impressive list of accomplishments. He has earned four JUNO nominations, the
2012 Western Canadian Music Award for Blues Recording of the Year, the CBC
Saturday Night Blues' Great Canadian Blues Award for a lifetime contribution to
the blues in Canada, and has twice been named Maple Blues Guitarist of the
Year. In March 2013, he performed as the supporting act for blues legend B.B. King for the third time in his
career, this time at the Port Theatre in Gogo's hometown of Nanaimo, BC.
Gogo has released thirteen albums to date and has
been a guest on a number of recordings. He has composed music for television
and major motion pictures and his songs have been performed and recorded by
musicians worldwide. He continues to tour relentlessly, performing across North
America and Europe in venues ranging from small blues bars to massive blues
festivals. Whether he's showcasing his blistering guitar licks and soulful
vocals during an electric performance or drawing the crowd in with his humour
and down-to-earth personality during an acoustic show, audiences everywhere can
attest to Gogo's outstanding talent.
Before writing and recording his latest album, “Come On Down”,
Gogo took a pilgrimage along the Blues Trail starting in Memphis and traveling
through Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama. Highlights of his southern adventure
included sitting in with local musicians at The Shack Up Inn, Ground Zero, and
Red's in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He appeared as a guest on Sonny Payne's
renowned ‘King Biscuit Radio Hour’,
and toured the legendary Fame, Sun, Stax, and Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios.
Gogo also traveled to towns mentioned in Robert Johnson songs, poured bourbon
on Johnson's grave, and even went down to Rosedale with his rider by his side,
as those famous ‘Crossroads’
lyrics proclaim.
Inspired by his journey through the birthplace of
the blues, Gogo wrote six original tunes and combined them with six reinvented
yet classic covers to create a new album that not only honours traditional
blues but also gets you dancing with some good old gritty rock and roll. “Come On Down”
takes you to a place where Robert Johnson meets the Rolling Stones and
Fleetwood Mac meets Ray Charles. It's a wild ride that Gogo navigates with
ease, ingenuity and style.

Blues-rawk road warrior Ross Neilsen and his band
bring “Resurrection” to Irene’s in
Ottawa. Neilsen’s latest studio CD was recorded in Maurice, Louisiana at
Dockside Studios, produced by New Orleans’ favourite son, Anders Osborne and
engineered by Grammy award-winning studio whiz, Warren Riker. This recording was
funded in part by the Music Industry Development grant in New Brunswick as well
as direct-to-fan funding site Pledge Music.
Neilsen’s journey to “Resurrection” was an epic one. Detouring to Macon, Georgia to
visit the Allman Brothers Museum, The
Big House, Neilsen gained inspiration for recording after being one of
the few people on earth to be allowed to play Duane Allman’s 1957 Gold Top Les
Paul. This is the legendary guitar used on the first two Allman Brothers albums
as well as Eric Clapton’s “Layla” album.
“Resurrection”
contains ten original songs, each one a unique sonic assault that draws
from Neilsen’s full palate of influences. From the dueling southern rock guitar
lines between Neilsen and Osborne on “Daddy Taught Me” (Neilsen’s tribute to
his late father), the poppy ear-worm hook in the rocker “Need You More”, ZZ
Top-esque guitar work in “Walk on By”, or the closing ten minute opus of
“Juanita” that conjures up the heavy drone of Crazy Horse, “Resurrection” explores bold new
ground taking the band into dangerously beautiful new territory. The song
topics are snap shots into the life the people Neilsen meets and the places he
visits as he tours the great nation he so proudly calls home.
After the demise of The Sufferin’ Bastards in
December 2011, Ross Neilsen has spent much of the last year rebuilding his
musical foundation with a new trio, Ross
Neilsen Band. Any doubt as to the impact of his return has been
shattered with this latest recording. The old school, in-your-face guitar
playing coupled with a thunderous, tight rhythm section has been Neilsen’s
trademark for years, blurring the lines between pop, blues and rock. With “Resurrection”, Neilsen has returned
with an arsenal of mature, timeless material and a fire burning hotter than
ever to take this new, exciting music to the place it matters most – The People.

as vibration therapy through The Sugar Devils musical diversity. Devilish
Guitarist, educator and musical director Josh ‘Yoshi’ Piche is a Brandon
University Music Alumni who plays any instrument with strings. Producer and

Suzie was born and raised in Saskatoon, spent years in Ottawa and Toronto and now resides in rural southern Ontario. She is one of the best-known folk blues singer/songwriter/guitarists in Canada with a voice that has been described as "spun gold and honey". Over the past 10 years she's won the Maple Blues Award for Best Female Vocalist a record 6 times, was nominated for a Juno last year and was a finalist in the Solo/Duo category at the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis last January. JW has been nominated for 13 Maple Blues Awards. In
the last decade, he has released seven albums and played in 19 countries, four
continents, and continues to tour throughout the world. On his 7th
release, aptly titled “Seventh Hour”, Jones teamed up with multi-Juno award
winning artist/producer, Steve Dawson, to mix the album. Previous releases have
featured legendary guests Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters) and David
‘Fathead’ Newman (Ray Charles); heavy-hitters Kim Wilson (Fabulous
Thunderbirds) and Charlie Musselwhite; two of the most innovative guitarists of
our time, Little Charlie Baty and Junior Watson; and Canadian billboard favourite,
Colin James. Jones has cut records from Hollywood to Sun Studio in Memphis.
Guitar World Magazine featured a CD called “Guitar Masters Vol. 2” that put
Jones alongside guitar stars B.B. King, Jimmy Page, and Carlos Santana among
others and which led to an endorsement deal with Gibson guitars.
