SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEK

Tim Bastmeyer & Jerome Tucker
Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Saturday, July 6

Blues Guitarist Tim Bastmeyer teams up with seasoned bassist Jerome Tucker for a new CD and show that is sure to get you up and moving on the dance floor. Set for release in Summer 2013, the new CD will feature the duo of Tim Bastmeyer on guitar and vocals and Jerome Tucker on bass and vocals, along with Corey Richardson on the drums, Scott Daniels on keys, and guest appearances from Jerome Godboo on harmonica, and Richard Thornton (Jack De Keyzer Band) on sax.   reverbnation.com/jerometuckertimbastmeyer

Jerome Tucker grew up in Philadelphia and started playing the electric bass at age 10. By the age of 16 he was performing in clubs in the Philly area. During his time in the US Navy he had the opportunity to perform with Aaron and Ivan Neville throughout Alabama, New Orleans and the Southern USA. Tucker moved to Chicago in 1996, sharing the stage with artists such as Chico Banks, Lurrie Bell, John Primer, Lonnie Brooks, Son Seals, Koko Taylor, Larry McCray, Buddy Guy and more. Prior to relocating to Canada, Tucker toured extensively throughout USA and Europe when he joined the Larry McCray Band.

Tim Bastmeyer is a Canadian blues singer/songwriter. He has performed throughout North America, as well as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Scotland and England. Bastmeyer’s most recent self-titled recording was released in late 2011 (produced and engineered by Bastmeyer) and received significant airplay and reviews, reaching #34 on The Roots Report. Featuring Juno award winning blues artist Julian Fauth on piano, James Thomson on bass and Corey Richardson on drums, this release is much different than Bastmeyer’s 2010 solo acoustic blues recording, titled “Graveyard:. There are 11 tracks on the CD, featuring 10 originals and a cover of the blues classic ‘I’m Going Down’. When not on tour Bastmeyer can be found at his recording studio in the Toronto area.   www.timbastmeyer.com

Paul Reddick
Irene’s Pub, 885 Bank Street
Saturday, July 6

Paul Reddick may well be Wishbone. His music is rooted in the blues, but his new record is a portrait of a wandering musician, a lover with precious little time for sentiment. It owes its existence to the musicians he has heard for 20 years, and all the musicians he has played with over two decades and half a dozen albums. And his new CD — yes, it’s titled “Wishbone” — is, he insists, a soundtrack for dancing and sex. Self-portrait? Maybe — but it IS the most consistent, powerful statement he’s made.

Reddick has long been a part of Canada’s rich roots music scene; he is one of the best harmonica players in the country, and … his distinctive voice covers a wide emotional palette; always engaging; sometimes a shout, more often a conversationally vivid whisper. But it is Reddick’s songs — sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, always thought-provoking and rarely sentimental — and the passionate way he delivers them that best illustrate what the influential British magazine Mojo described as his “wayward brilliance.”

In the real world, he has been nominated for Junos and Blues Music Awards and he is a seven-time Maple Blues Award winner. And he continues to tour — across Canada and the United States, with two or three trips a year to Europe — with his hard-hitting band.

Singer, songwriter, blues guitarist and harmonica player extraordinaire … lots of great performance clips on YOUTUBE.

David Gogo
Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Saturday, July 20

As one of Canada's hardest working and most prolific blues guitar virtuosos, David Gogo has amassed a worldwide fanbase and an impressive list of accomplishments. He has earned four JUNO nominations, the 2012 Western Canadian Music Award for Blues Recording of the Year, the CBC Saturday Night Blues' Great Canadian Blues Award for a lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada, and has twice been named Maple Blues Guitarist of the Year. In March 2013, he performed as the supporting act for blues legend B.B. King for the third time in his career, this time at the Port Theatre in Gogo's hometown of Nanaimo, BC.

Gogo has released thirteen albums to date and has been a guest on a number of recordings. He has composed music for television and major motion pictures and his songs have been performed and recorded by musicians worldwide. He continues to tour relentlessly, performing across North America and Europe in venues ranging from small blues bars to massive blues festivals. Whether he's showcasing his blistering guitar licks and soulful vocals during an electric performance or drawing the crowd in with his humour and down-to-earth personality during an acoustic show, audiences everywhere can attest to Gogo's outstanding talent.

Before writing and recording his latest album, “Come On Down”, Gogo took a pilgrimage along the Blues Trail starting in Memphis and traveling through Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama. Highlights of his southern adventure included sitting in with local musicians at The Shack Up Inn, Ground Zero, and Red's in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He appeared as a guest on Sonny Payne's renowned ‘King Biscuit Radio Hour’, and toured the legendary Fame, Sun, Stax, and Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios. Gogo also traveled to towns mentioned in Robert Johnson songs, poured bourbon on Johnson's grave, and even went down to Rosedale with his rider by his side, as those famous ‘Crossroads’ lyrics proclaim.

Inspired by his journey through the birthplace of the blues, Gogo wrote six original tunes and combined them with six reinvented yet classic covers to create a new album that not only honours traditional blues but also gets you dancing with some good old gritty rock and roll. “Come On Down” takes you to a place where Robert Johnson meets the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac meets Ray Charles. It's a wild ride that Gogo navigates with ease, ingenuity and style.

KINGSTON SPECIAL EVENTS

JW JONES (Up Close and Personal in a way only the RCHA Club offers)
The Standeasy @ the RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Saturday, July 13; doors open @ 8 pm, show starts @ 9 pm; tickets $10

JW has been nominated for 13 Maple Blues Awards. In the last decade, he has released seven albums and played in 19 countries, four continents, and continues to tour throughout the world. On his 7th release, aptly titled “Seventh Hour”, Jones teamed up with multi-Juno award winning artist/producer, Steve Dawson, to mix the album. Previous releases have featured legendary guests Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters) and David ‘Fathead’ Newman (Ray Charles); heavy-hitters Kim Wilson (Fabulous Thunderbirds) and Charlie Musselwhite; two of the most innovative guitarists of our time, Little Charlie Baty and Junior Watson; and Canadian billboard favourite, Colin James. Jones has cut records from Hollywood to Sun Studio in Memphis. Guitar World Magazine featured a CD called “Guitar Masters Vol. 2” that put Jones alongside guitar stars B.B. King, Jimmy Page, and Carlos Santana among others and which led to an endorsement deal with Gibson guitars.

Charlie Musselwhite stated that "JW Jones is one of the best guitar players I’ve heard”
"JW's got it down! So much soul, and nice material. You can't beat it” - Hubert Sumlin
"This is an amazing blues band" - Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues)
"One of this country's top blues guitar stars" - Globe and Mail

I can attest that I have never had as many musicians from the states and here in Canada tell me time after time that the best guitar player they have played with by and far is JW Jones.
PLEASE NOTE – This show is sponsored through a grant from the Kingston Arts Council and the City of Kingston; as a result tickets for this great show are only $10. BUT – there only 80 tickets for sale and the only way you can purchase tickets is by calling 613 384 8168. CALL NOW – or you won’t get tickets for one of the world’s very best guitar slingers.
