Honeyrunners have a knack for musical alchemy, melding soul-wrenching Motown
Rock with the shine of ‘90s Alt-radio and the storytelling folk of the ‘60s.
Their debut single, ‘Jet Set’, is featured on Bacardi's international
campaign for 'Champions Party 2013'. The newest HR tune, ‘My Garage (Bang Bang Bang)’, will
debut on Coca-Cola's "52 Songs of Happiness" campaign later this
year. In April, The Honeyrunners performed live on national television for CTV
Canada AM (watch here), followed by a slew of TV performances, radio
interviews, and glowing show reviews. With 85+ Canadian tour & festival
dates on the books, a debut EP (May 2013) released under Fontana North, and a
live album/DVD in the works (Fall 2013 - teaser -
"Hold Me"), this young Toronto band is busier than your average
DIY indie outfit. The power is in the music - massive drums, funky bass,
soulful rhythm keys, heavy electric guitar, a gritty voice, lush harmonies,
gang-vocals, and a collective 80-odd years of obsession with music's colourful

Tav Falco - The master of a raw and shambolic fusion of
rockabilly, blues, and fractured noise, Tav Falco was, along with the Cramps,
one of the earliest purveyors of what would come to be known as psychobilly, and
he anticipated the fractured but hard-hitting blues wailing of the Gories and
the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion by close to a decade.
Falco put together the first version of his band the
Panther Burns (named for a famous Tennessee plantation), a group whose
revolving membership included Alex Chilton and James Luther Dickinson in its
early incarnations. Falco then relocated to New York City, where he brought his
frenetic roots music to the Big Apple's then-thriving no wave scene, which led
to Falco's major-label release, “Blow Your Top”, a 1982 EP issued by Chris
Stein's (Blondie) Animal label. Throughout the 1980s and '90s, Falco began
dividing his time between Europe and the United States, and released a slow but
steady stream of recordings with shifting Panther Burns lineups while holding
down another career as an actor.
His latest CD Live In London At The 100 Club, was released in 2012.

Sam Korosi is a solo, multi-instrument
musician, currently studying Popular Music and residing in Liverpool England.
Sam's musical style is heavily influenced by Brit-pop, classic rock,
alternative and folk music; entertaining audiences with familiar and
influential hits ranging from Mumford and Sons to The Beatles. Sam is a
familiar face to the city as a street performer in the Byward Market and
musical act around Ottawa and Liverpool. An hour-long show filled with
different instruments and light-hearted musicality and lots of Beatles. "A

Fry is an accomplished singer/songwriter from Kingston, Ontario. A veteran of
the concert and festival circuit, she receives rave reviews for her live
performances. Georgette has been described as a “powerful and expressive
singer.” She returns to the stage with a Tribute to Etta James, accompanied
by an eight-piece band, three accomplished vocalists (Tabby Johnson, Mariko
Ohtake and Anna Sudac), and the Shout Sister! Choir providing the gospel
backups!
Georgette’s
concerts highlight the ease with which she bridges the gap between jazz and
blues. Long recognized as one Canada’s
best blues vocalists, Georgette was most recently named “2013 Singer of the
Year” by the Calgary Blues Music Association.
Etta
James' career spanned six decades, during which she had several top ten hits, a
dozen nominations and three Grammy Awards and a Grammy "Lifetime
Achievement" Award; in 2008, her first hit, "The Wallflower"
(aka "Dance With Me Henry") was also given the Grammy Hall of Fame
Award. Etta James passed away in January of 2012, leaving one helluva legacy.

Rebennack as known to friends and family, is universally celebrated as the
living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans. His
very colourful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played
guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City,
including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie
Ford.
A notorious gun incident forced the
artist to give up the guitar and concentrate on organ and piano. Further
trouble at home sent Dr. John west in the 1960s, where he continued to be in
demand as a session musician, playing on records by Sonny and Cher, Van
Morrison, Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones' infamous Exile On Main St. to
name a few.
During that time he also launched his
solo career, developing the charismatic persona of Dr. John, The Nite Tripper.
Adorned with voodoo charms and regalia, a legend was born with his breakthrough
1968 album “Gris-gris”, which established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism,
funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.
After
Hurricane Katrina and government bungles bashed New Orleans in
2005, Dr. John immediately stepped up to the plate with both generous
relief fund-raising concerts and recordings and angry public words of protest.
In 2008 he released “City That Care Forgot,” an album winning him a Grammy for
Best Contemporary Blues Album. In 2013, Dr. John won a Grammy for his latest release
"Locked Down", produced by one of the biggest bands on the planet,
The Black Keys.

Washington arrived right on time with the right tools for the job. Armed with
powerful hands and a deep, muscular voice, Papadon is ready to shout the blues
like a country preacher.
I was introduced to Don at the Chicago Blues
Festival several years ago by my friend Bruce Iglauer (Alligator Records) who
said: “Don Washington is an exciting young pianist and singer championing the
blues piano tradition with flair, talent and soul. He can pound out a rocking
boogie-woogie and get down into an intense slow blues, plus his original songs
show plenty of writing talent (and a sense of humor). He’s got a strong voice
and a warm and comfortable stage personality that can reach audiences easily.
His performance at the 2005 Chicago Blues Festival won him a legion of new
fans, and left the crowd hollering for more. I can heartily recommend him for
any club or blues festival.”

Blues Summit in Toronto, then, in February, played the Mid-Winter Blues
Festival in Regina Saskatchewan, and in March played in Moose Jaw and at the Saskatoon
Blues Festival. On June 22 he’ll be at the Stratford Bluesfest and on July
12 the Bruce County Bluesfest in Kincardine. He’ll also be at the Dutch Mason
Bluesfest on August 10 opening for Guitar Shorty and will be touring in Western
Canada in November. His 2012 live CD is still receiving attention and he’s
already writing for the next CD.

There
are bands for which rock and roll is a lifestyle, and then there are bands for
which it is life. At an age when most boys are still dreaming of rock stardom,
the Weber Brothers were too busy working to care. Four sets a night, four
nights a week, the brothers perfected their hard-won sound in Maryland dive
bars they were often too young to frequent.
Inspired
by their intense love of Scorcese’s classic concert film “The Last Waltz,” Ryan
and Sam sent off a self-recorded demo tape to the legendary Ronnie Hawkins, the
elder statesman of rock whose former protégés (Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, et
al.) went on to reshape the music history as The Band. Duly impressed by the
pair's immense raw talent, Hawkins promptly invited them to audition for his
storied backing band, The Hawks. One quick decision and one long van ride
later, they arrived at Hawkins’ rural Ontario home, and after surviving the
intense musical apprenticeship of his fabled “Rock ‘n’ Roll Bootcamp,” they
were in: full-blooded Hawks.
Ten
years and six self-released albums later, the Webers have spread their wings,
shared the stage with icons like Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, Leon Russell, Derek
Trucks and Kris Kristofferson, and toured extensively throughout the US,
Canada, and Europe.
“Left
Right Left Right,” their seventh release, is nothing less than a rebirth of The
Weber Brothers sound. A double album of 26 original songs, it fuses the
stomping country rock learned at Hawkins’ knee with the brothers' own love of
pop music in all its splendor, from gorgeous “Pet Sounds”/ “White Album” vocal
harmonies to blacktop-burning 50’s rockabilly, full-throated Crazy Horse
anthems to classic corner group doo-wop. Tightly focused in execution yet epic
in scope, “Left Right Left Right” is the Weber Brothers at their finest.
Firebelly
is a modern Canadian blues outfit, formed in 2012, driven by a collective
passion to create fresh blues music, while respecting its rich & timeless
traditions. Lead singer & harp player, front man Mathieu Gagnon, is a

McGarrigle, when she lost her battle with cancer at the age of 63. Tonight, we
salute the music of Kate McGarrigle in this special show, recorded as part of
the Luminato Festival in Toronto. Kate's sisters, Anna and Jane, along with her
children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, join guest stars Emmylou Harris, Bruce
Cockburn, Jane Siberry, members of Broken Social Scene and more, to perform,
tell stories, and celebrate Kate McGarrigle.

album Songs for Searchers.
Almost overnight he went from a relatively unknown performer to sweeping

Recording of the year, emerging
from the vibrant St. John's music scene as the latest in the storied
line of great Canadian singer-songwriters. In this exclusive CBC concert
recorded at the LSPU Hall in St. John's, Andrew is joined by his band The
Searchers, with a special guest appearance by Newfoundland's sensational folk roots
trio The
Once.

An assortment of stringed instruments like the guitar, banjo, violin and
kora bring together traditional Mandingue music (sung in Wolof) with North
American roots, folk, and rhythm and blues (sung in English and French). Last
spring, the great Senegalese griot and kora player Zal Idrissa invited a few of
his friends to perform together on one stage in Montreal as part of the CBC world
music series Mundo Montreal. We'll hear roots guitarist and singer Michael
Jerome Brown as well as blues guitarist and singer Cécile Doo-Kingué and the
rhythm and blues chanteuse Doba. A mashup of musical styles and personalities
from Africa and North America

Deep Dark Woods, recorded at The Great Hall
in Toronto
Hot on the heels of wildly successful American and European tours,
Saskatoon's The Deep Dark Woods returned to Canada with a triumphant sold-out
show at Toronto's The Great Hall. This was the biggest Toronto venue The Deep
Dark Woods had ever played, and by the time the doors opened that evening a
lineup of fans had grown around the block. Old Man Luedecke opened the show to
a constant stream of people finding the bar and finding their seats. When The
Deep Dark Woods took the stage the crowd was good and warmed up and a party was
about to begin. The Deep Dark Woods live show is part country jamboree, part
Allman Brothers-style jam band, and guaranteed 100% fun. The Deep Dark Woods
were joined on stage for this show by violinist Kendal Carson and Old Man
Luedecke, who was welcomed back to the stage like he was an old friend.

Barlow, recorded at Theatre L'Astral in Montreal
This concert at Theatre L'Astral in Montreal was the official launch of
Canadian jazz artist Emilie-Claire Barlow's ninth album, Seule ce soir (Alone
Tonight) - her first solely en français. She performed a whole pile of new
tunes, plus a couple of completely new covers including "Croissants de
soleil" by Ginette Reno and "La belle dame sans regret" by
Sting. Barlow is clear about her motivation to write and perform in French:
"I find the language to be beautiful and very musical. I appreciate the
poetry of French lyrics - and it changes the sound of my voice, as the mouth
adapts to the necessary shapes. ... The desire to do an all-French album was to
have an opportunity to immerse myself a little deeper in the music and the
language. I feel that I have been working up to it for a while. Regardless of
the language, the tone of many of these songs really reflected where I am in my
life right now, so it seemed very natural." For this performance, she
finds an adoring crowd who obviously appreciate the effort!
