Anthony Gomes
Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Friday, February 15

Singer-guitarist Anthony Gomes lives by that credo of truth as an artist, constantly challenging himself to expand his explorations of heart and sound. The release of his latest album “Up 2 Zero” represents a full-circle return to his love of high energy, guitar-driven blues rock. The new collection of songs combines straight ahead power blues compositions with tracks that incorporate soul-injected melodic moments. “This album is the most honest representation of who I am,” Anthony says. “When I started playing, all I wanted to do was dig deep and play the blues. I wanted to capture that reckless blues power of my earlier catalogue on this recording. I also have a love of melody that you can hear in soul and gospel music, and this CD has those elements as well. Even on the songs that stray away from the traditional 12-bar blues format, you still can hear plenty of B.B. King or Buddy Guy in there.”
“Up 2 Zero” was included on many ‘Best of 2012’ lists and Anthony Gomes was nominated for Electric Act of the Year at this year’s Maple Blues Awards.  He’ll be at the Rainbow on Friday, February 15.

JW-Jones & Rod Williams                    ***POSTPONED TO FEBRUARY 24, 2013***
Acoustic Duo House Concert
Sunday, February 24 @ 2 pm; tickets $25

Known as Canada's Top Touring Bluesman, JW-Jones has performed in 19 countries, 4 continents, and has released 7 critically acclaimed CDs, including the new 'Seventh Hour'.  Guitar World Magazine featured a CD called ‘Guitar Masters Vol. 2’ that put Jones alongside guitar stars B.B. King, Jimmy Page, and Carlos Santana among others, which led him to an endorsement deal with Gibson guitars.  His last few CDs have hit #1 on B.B. King's Bluesville on Sirius-XM Radio in the U.S.A., and Jones continues to win over audiences across the globe with his high-energy live performances.

Rod Williams, affectionately as Reverend Rod, is a master Harp player and powerful vocalist. Rod has been performing at local venues since the early ‘90s and has played alongside the who’s-who of local and international talent. He brings a passion for the music that is contagious and undeniable! A member of many local bands, including The Soul Shakers, Broadcast Blues Band, Lil' Al's Combo, more recently, King Rattler, Wicked Grin, and an acoustic duo, with Ottawa's own guitar master, JW-Jones.

For the last couple of years, J-Dub and Rod Williams have been enjoying the laid-back and intimate vibe of playing together, stripped down, cool blues and roots music.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU
          - 2012/13 SEASON LINE-UP
********************************************************
Celebrating its 8th year BOTR has become one of the premier Blues Series in the country. The combination of a delicious buffet dinner and dancing to some of Canada’s best blues bands in the friendly, intimate setting of The Cove has proven to be a real winner. Proceeds from every show go to support different local charities. $38,000 has been raised since the Series started and another $7,000 is expected this year.

It’s another great Line-Up for 2012/13 – a combination of the most popular acts who’ve played the Series previously and some exciting new talent.  The 2012/13 Season starts October 26 and will continue once a month until May (excluding December). There will be a total of 11 shows this year – two-night stands (Friday & Saturday) and singles (Friday only). Most occur on the third weekend of the month. Times are the same for all shows – 7 to 11 pm. Despite increased costs the ticket price will remain the same as last year - $60 which includes a full course buffet dinner, dancing and a donation to the charity.

From Toronto - a dynamite vocalist and 3X Maple Blues Award nominee Robin sings Blues, Soul and R&B equally well with passion, power and clarity. Over the years she’s lived in Chicago, Memphis and Texas playing alongside Blues greats like Sam Myers, Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith and Junior Watson. People have asked me how can this band bring in such high quality musicians to play with them – the answer comes from Irene’s early days when she was an extremely popular and award winning Latin and Jazz singer. During that time period (and continuing on to this day) she has performed and recorded with many of the world’s finest musicians – the fact that she wants to bring them to Kingston and perform for us is a special treat indeed. concert 1: Lyle Lovett and his Large Band

recorded as part of the 2011 Edmonton Folk Music Festival
Lyle Lovett has been a favourite guest of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival for decades. Over the years he's arrived solo, with a trio, and now with his Large Band. An artist dedicated to defying categorization, his music runs the gamut from pure country & western, gospel, blues, and rock and roll, and most of it from the pen of Lovett himself. With his 14 piece Large Band in tow, it's a memorable evening of jaw-dropping musicianship, nuance, humour, subtlety and bombast.

Canada Live podcast, released on Thursdays
Thursday, January 10 on the Canada Live podcast
Ndidi O,
recorded at the Catalyst Theatre as part of the 2012 Edmonton International Jazz Festival
There is one thing you can say about Ndidi Onukwulu (who performs as Ndidi O) on stage: she has fun. Her hybrid of pop, jazz and blues is tailor-made for dancing. Even when the lyrics turn to lost love and broken hearts, she shows her positive upbeat side. One might almost think that she would prefer to be on the dance floor than on the stage. That is until she starts to sing. Ndidi O slips from entertainer to artist as easily as her impeccable voice slips up and down the scales. She captivated the audience at the 2012 Edmonton International Jazz Festival.
