The Krisi Allen Band has
invited Steve Perron to an intimate and personal show at the GigSpace on
Friday, January 18 for a New Year’s show that is sure to leave a crowd
breathless. Together, the Krisi Allen Band and Steve Perron use their adept
guitar styling, powerful vocals and impressive stages presences to command
attention while providing a musical experience that one won’t soon forget.
The Krisi Allen Band is led by
Christina Gordon and it is born out of love for music and a distinct dedication
to song writing. With a roster of
original songs about life on the street and the school of hard knocks,
Christina lives and breathes music reminiscent of greats like Janis Joplin,
Melissa Ethridge and Joan Armatrading. Christina’s chief collaborator on the
project is Paul Allen Papp, a man who took to music like a Harley to the
road. Music consumes this artist who has
a natural talent that refined by remarkable discipline.
Steve Perron is a lightning bolt on
stage. Those who have stood too close have found themselves overcome by
Steve’s gravel-like vocals, complemented by the rapid-fire rhythm
of the acoustic guitar. Like Dylan,
Hendrix and the Tragically Hip, this artist has no bounds. His personal
connection to his audience creates a musical experience that is uniquely intimate.

you liked the John Mayall concert in Peterborough last year,
you'll love Carlos' unique spin and how he gets around on the
harmonica. At Rick Fines Blues Review last March at the Showplace theatre,
Carlos wowed the crowd with his wizardry.
Carlos is one of those players whose music is so advanced that when it comes to awards, it's either retire the category or rephrase the question "Best Harmonica Player Not Named Carlos". This includes two Gold Medals from the Hohner World Harmonica Championship in Trossingen, Germany, as well as multiple national awards in Canada.
To say he plays the harmonica is like saying "Jimi Hendrix plays guitar". He blows the blues harp through a prism -- suddenly it seems he's holding every color in the musical rainbow right there in his hands.
Simultaneously sophisticated and raw, his playing blurs the boundaries between blues and jazz (hence the name for his band “The Blues Mongrels”). The emphasis is on blues, but they are not afraid to merrily traipse off in other directions delivering a seamless fusion of New Orleans second line grooves, swing, Latin, hip-hop or ska melodies, to swampy roots rock.

The bi-annual Blues Summit 6 conference at the Delta Chelsea Hotel brings together the blues industry
from around Canada and beyond. The conference includes an evening of showcases
on Friday Jan 18, featuring a line-up from Electro Fi Records and additional
showcasing artists in Monarchs Pub as well as the Market Garden. Saturday Jan
19 will feature an opening reception in Monarchs Pub followed by SOCAN Songs
and Stories, which will precede the showcases scheduled for later that night.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be an additional acoustic showcase room on
the 27th floor of the hotel (Deck 27). The keynote brunch on Sunday will feature
a speech by Holger Petersen, followed by a festival speed pitch for artists to
speak directly to festival directors, and then an afternoon of panels. For a

Anthony Gomes lives by that credo of truth as an artist, constantly challenging
himself to expand his explorations of heart and sound. The release of his
latest album “Up 2 Zero” represents a full-circle return to his love of high
energy, guitar-driven blues rock. The new collection of songs combines straight
ahead power blues compositions with tracks that incorporate soul-injected
melodic moments. “This album is the most honest representation of who I am,”
Anthony says. “When I started playing, all I wanted to do was dig deep and play
the blues. I wanted to capture that reckless blues power of my earlier
catalogue on this recording. I also have a love of melody that you can hear in
soul and gospel music, and this CD has those elements as well. Even on the
songs that stray away from the traditional 12-bar blues format, you still can
hear plenty of B.B. King or Buddy Guy in there.”

After 15 years of partying up crowds at the
Gladstone Hotel, Swamperella has deserved its acclaim as a guaranteed good
time. The eclectic demographic that is attracted to Swamperella’s monthly
events attests to this acclaim. If you don’t think you want to dance, just
listening to the band and watching the crowd is almost as fun. But, dancing or
not, you probably won’t be standing still - the Swamperella sound won’t let you
and the scene will keep you smiling.
The original mandate of Swamperella, ‘to honour the
Cajun music tradition’, has never been compromised. The integrity of the
traditional form and sentiment has always been maintained even as originals and
Zydeco began seeping into the Swamperella repertoire. But there’s nothing
stodgy about this band. The old time flavour stirred up in a brand new pot makes
for a fabulous and rich musical experience and the Swamp-stew just keeps

featured a CD called ‘Guitar Masters Vol. 2’ that put Jones alongside guitar
stars B.B. King, Jimmy Page, and Carlos Santana among others, which led him to
an endorsement deal with Gibson guitars.
His last few CDs have hit #1 on B.B. King's Bluesville on Sirius-XM
Radio in the U.S.A., and Jones continues to win over audiences across the globe
with his high-energy live performances.
Rod
Williams, affectionately as Reverend Rod, is a master Harp player and powerful
vocalist. Rod has been performing at local venues since the early ‘90s and has
played alongside the who’s-who of local and international talent. He brings a
passion for the music that is contagious and undeniable! A member of many local
bands, including The Soul Shakers, Broadcast Blues Band, Lil' Al's Combo, more
recently, King Rattler, Wicked Grin, and an acoustic duo, with Ottawa's own guitar
master, JW-Jones.
For
the last couple of years, J-Dub and Rod Williams have been enjoying the

Manitoba Hal is an accomplished guitarist and
songwriter, but he is best known for his ukulele chops. Hal proves that the uke
can be small but mighty as he pulls out powerful blues riffs and melodies.
Hal uses a looping technology to produce a one-man-band experience, adding subtle but important background beats to his extraordinary ukulele strumming and riffing. Many wouldn’t associate the ukulele as a blues instrument, but Hal takes out all the hula, leaving only room for deep blues to prevail. After his grandfather gave him a uke in ’95, Hal found that it transferred easily from his blues guitar style, complimenting his combination of finger picking and strumming, and gospel vocal style.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU
- 2012/13 SEASON LINE-UP

Celebrating its 8th year BOTR has become one
of the premier Blues Series in the country. The combination of a delicious
buffet dinner and dancing to some of Canada’s best blues bands in the friendly,
intimate setting of The Cove has proven to be a real winner. Proceeds from
every show go to support different local charities. $38,000 has been raised
since the Series started and another $7,000 is expected this year.
It’s another great Line-Up for 2012/13 – a combination of
the most popular acts who’ve played the Series previously and some exciting new
talent. The 2012/13 Season starts October 26 and will continue once a
month until May (excluding December). There will be a total of 11 shows this
year – two-night stands (Friday & Saturday) and singles (Friday only).
Most occur on the third weekend of the month. Times are the same for all shows
– 7 to 11 pm. Despite increased costs the ticket price will remain the same as
last year - $60 which includes a full course buffet dinner, dancing and a
donation to the charity.

From Cambridge, ON - an incredible young
guitarist/singer/songwriter (only 19 years old!) with a very tight band who has
already played prestigious events like the Montreal International Festival de
Jazz and the International Blues Challenge in Memphis to standing ovations. He
has a great new album out full of original songs. A rising young star on the
Canadian Blues scene. It’s his first visit to BOTR at The Cove.

From Toronto - 6 players from two of Canada's most famous
