Guy Belanger
CD Release “Dusty Trails”
Greenfield’s Pub, 900
Greenbank Road, Barrhaven
Thursday, November 22
@ 8 pm; $20
Virtuoso
instrumentalist and distinguished composer, Guy Bélanger has forged his way to
become one of the greats. Following the release of “Crossroads” in 2010, a strong
and mature album praised by critics, in October he released “Dusty Trails”, his
third and most accomplished album to date.
A
celebration of the southern United States’ musical tradition in all its forms. “Dusty
Trails” evolves from years of non-stop touring.
From
the splendid overture of ‘Morning Lights’ to the souped up ‘The Wild Bunch’,
from the New-Orleans second-line rhythms of ‘High Heels Crocodile’ to the
moving and picturesque title track, Bélanger skilfully displays the extent of
his art.
As
well as his loyal bandmates Gilles Sioui and André Lachance on guitars, Guy’s
musical friends collaborate on “Dusty Trails”.
Nanette Workman, Breen Leboeuf, France D’Amour and Adam Karch all lend
their unique voices, while Antoine Gratton is burning up the Fender Rhodes on
the marvelous ‘The Wild Bunch’.
“To
me, Dusty Trails tells of the long hours spent on the road, and also the idea
of dusting off the harmonica in my own way, and take it for a ride.” - Guy
Bélanger

NAC Presents
catl
NAC 4th
Stage, 53 Elgin Street
Thursday, November 22
@ 7:30 pm
Dirty. Sweaty. Fun. catl
is a Toronto-based, super high energy, rhythm and blues trio who’s main motive
is to get you movin’ and grindin’ on the dance floor.
Influenced by Mississippi Delta blues musicians such as
Fred McDowell, Charlie Patton and Son House, catl's sound is pure floor-stomping
juke-joint blues.
For over three years catl has packed the Dakota Tavern
(Toronto) each month, with loyal fans lining up outside for the chance to
wriggle and shake on the dance floor. From their humble beginnings as a
house-party band, catl went on to win the 2009 Toronto Blues Society Talent
Search, paving the way for them to play other festivals such as the South Side
Shuffle, the Kitchener Blues Fest and a prime spot on an outdoor main-stage at
the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2011.
Having opened for acts such as The Jon Spencer Blues
Explosion, Heavy Trash, Andre Williams, The Sadies, and Detroit garage-rockers
The Gories – catl still jump at the chance to play their stripped-down sound at
house parties and parking lots, doing what they love most: having fun and
making people dance. In April of 2012,
catl released their 3rd full length record, "Soon this will all
be gone" to critical acclaim.

Background:
What started as a ‘one off Christmas songwriting project by a number of local singer/songwriters turned into a Christmas tradition for many! First it was a way to inspire songwriting, then it was a CD, with a CD release concert where proceeds went to the Ottawa Food Bank. Members of the songwriting community wanted to give back. Now into its 10th year, and 3 CDs later, we are proud to bring once again, a stellar cast to the NAC Fourth Stage.

Robbie Antone &
the Blues Machine
Rainbow, 76 Murray
Street
Saturday, December 5
Best
Blues/R&B 2012 Jack Richardson Music Award winners, 2012 Memphis
International Blues Challenge Semi-Finalists and 2011 London Free Press Local
Album of the Year winners, Robbie Antone’s Blues Machine gets its sound from
the many influences of lead singer and harmonica ace Robbie Antone. Robbie
Antone “Wolf Clan,” hails from the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation,
near London ON.
As
a young adult, inspired from his collection of Chess and Sun records, Antone
set out on his quest to tame the harmonica and develop his own distinctive tone
and sound. Years later, after 3 CDs consisting of his own original material as
well as Chicago and Delta style Blues, Antone brings his experience to the
studio to produce his latest CD “Red Road Blues”, inspired by his Cultural
Heritage and his life experiences. Guitarist Richard Joyce from Toronto,
Ontario puts down a strong rhythm and superior quality tone, adding to the
Blues Machine’s amazing sound. The Blues Machine’s strong rhythm section
consists of Juno Award winning drummer and Trinidad native, Hayden Vialva, a
long time friend and ally of Antone’s and Rob Valente from London ON, whose
impressive bass playing rounds off the smooth and soulful music of Robbie
Antone’s Blues Machine. The Blues Machine’s music is best described as
Blues/Rock with influences of Soul and R&B. Robbie Antone’s Blues Machine
delivers a diverse blend of musical styles at their live shows, creating a
positive energy that embraces the crowd.

The Weber Brothers
Elmdale House Tavern,
Saturday, December 8
@ 9:30 pm;
$10
There are bands for which rock and roll is a
lifestyle, and then there are bands for which it is life. At an age when most boys are still dreaming
of rock stardom, the Weber Brothers were too busy working to care. Four sets a
night, four nights a week, the brothers perfected their hard-won sound in
Maryland dive bars they were often too young to frequent. Inspired by their
intense love of Scorcese’s classic concert film “The Last Waltz,” Ryan and Sam
sent off a self-recorded demo tape to the legendary Ronnie Hawkins, the elder
statesman of rock whose former protégés (Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, et al.)
went on to reshape the music history as The Band. Duly impressed by the pair's
immense raw talent, Hawkins promptly invited them to audition for his storied
backing band, The Hawks.
One quick decision and one long van ride later,
they arrived at Hawkins’ rural Ontario home, and after surviving the intense
musical apprenticeship of his fabled “Rock ‘n’ Roll Bootcamp,” they were in:
full-blooded Hawks. Ten years and six self-released albums later, the Webers
have spread their wings, shared the stage with icons like Garth Hudson, Levon
Helm, Leon Russell, Derek Trucks and Kris Kristofferson, and toured extensively
throughout the US, Canada, and Europe.
