mid 1800s. They brought their soulful roots music with them and passed it down
from generation to generation which, no doubt, explains why he plays and sings

Competition, sponsored by Ottawa's boom 99.7. The competition is a cross-Canada talent
search for the best in emerging Canadian female music talent. With the help of boom 99.7, Bluesfest welcomed
submissions from more than 300 Canadian female musicians. The competition
included a solo and band category.
This
year's finalists in the Solo Category were Breagh Mackinnon; Molly Thomason;
and Sarah Hiltz. Finalists in the Band Category were Chloe Charles; Miss Emily;
and Carmen Townsend. This year’s winners were Molly Thomason in the solo
category and Miss Emily in the band category.

Formed in 2004, André Bisson the frontman, first had the idea
of forming a rhythm & blues band while attending the Applied Music Program
at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. It was there he was able to find some
of the best musicians in the city that were all devoted and hard working
professionals, who all shared the love of the music. Andre’s band consists of 5
players including Andre on Vocals/Guitar, as well as a Bassist, Drummer,
Trumpet, and Tenor Saxophone player. This combination of skilled players allows
the band to have tight horn lines as well as a heavy groove in the rhythm
section making everyone in the room sit up and listen.

Danish singer Thorbjørn Risager,
praised for his rough and strong voice by an unanimous choir of critics from a
growing number of countries – 15 the last time we counted them - is a
soft-spoken gentleman off stage. He is the leader of his seven-piece band
mainly for practical reasons – to bring any little issue into a group
discussion can be quite time-consuming. He also composes most of the band’s
music, and during the performance he is the obvious center of attention, even
if the band has a charming way of passing round the task of introducing the
songs between them, so that each musician gets his word in.
And this is a real smooth
organization, that has divided all practical tasks such as web master, CD sales
on gigs etc between themselves. Which makes life easier in the midst of their
heavy touring schedule.
In 2003 he started his band, selected
musicians he liked both musically and personally, and the fact that up until
today only one of them left and was replaced, at an early stage of the band’s
career, proves that the choice was excellent.
But of course Thorbjørn’s musical
interest started long before this. He played the saxophone from the age of 12,
then guitar – but the singing was more of a coincidence at first. He was
exposed to the blues through a neighbour, a middle-aged gentleman who was
friends with his parents, and who started playing blues records to the young
Thorbjørn. That’s how his life-long love story with the blues started, with B B
King as his biggest hero. Ray Charles is one of his other obvious influences,
but today, with almost 40 recorded songs from his own pen, he has defined his
own sound and style.
His mixture of genres is something
that is sometimes mentioned by critics, who are looking for more homogeneity.
But this is Thorbjørn’s deliberate choice. To hear a band that plays one
shuffle after another, or only jump blues through an entire CD or concert,
might please some critics but there’s definitely a risk that the audience will
get bored. So he weaves threads of soul,
gospel, rock, R&B and funk into his music, to create a variety and keep the
audience interested, something that the band succeeds with on each single gig.

Canada’s guitar elite and is considered one of Quebec’s overall best
guitarists; but it doesn’t stop there, he’s also a powerful and expressive
singer. Since 1997 he has fronted the Paul Deslauriers Band, and proudly showing his rock
colors and his true to the blues roots. With over two decades of experience in
the music industry (began his career in his early teens!), seven albums under
his belt, and a list of fans that extends into Europe and the US, this
guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer has truly mastered his art!
Paul
first gained acclaim in the 1990s as a founding member of Black Cat Bone, deemed by many critics at the time to be
“one of Canada’s hottest blues-rock bands.” Today he continues to electrify audiences with
his live performances and give workshops at Festivals and concerts on both
sides of the Atlantic.

Paul Reddick is one of the best
singer/songwriter/harmonica players in Canada. He has been called "The Poet Of
Song" for his emotive, passionate way with words, voice and harp. He will
be joined by the very talented Weber Brothers - Sam on guitar and Ryan on
stand-up bass. Originally from Maryland they
came to Toronto
to play in Ronnie Hawkins' band in the early 2000s and stayed.
August 26 – Michael Jerome Browne
Michael
Jerome Browne is an extremely accomplished instrumentalist (guitar, banjo,
mandolin, violin and more) and singer and, together with his wife Bee, writes
beautiful songs. It's hard to pigeon
hole his music - you'll hear elements of folk, roots, gospel, country, soul,
R&B, Motown, jazz, rock and bluegrass as well as blues in his repertoire -
and its all good! For this Show he is joined by long time friend and excellent
percussionist John McColgan.
September 9 – Treasa Levasseur with David Baxter
"Think
Joni Mitchell, Etta James, Carole King and Dusty Springfield rolled into
one….her voice has great range, it can whisper, cry, soar with joy and blast
you out of your seat - sometimes all in the same song! She's also a first class
songwriter with lyrics that emote, entice and captivate. And she can play -
piano, accordion, guitar, mandolin, percussion, Rhodes
and diamonica. Add in a theatre background and a career as a successful
children's music teacher/entertainer and you have the versatile, eclectic and

and interviews with “new and reissued blues and rhythm and blues tracks on wax”,
alternating with “live blues and R&B for a Sunday night” in the last half
hour of the show. On the last Sunday of every month, the show goes “down in the
delta” for a selection of acoustic blues tracks in the final half hour of the
program.
