The original 74 submissions were cut to 30 for the second round and five finalists have now been chosen. The winner will be announced at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis TN on Saturday, February 4.

This year’s ‘Blind Lemon Top Twenty Canadian Blues Albums’ Survey has seen several significant changes.
First and foremost, the list of eligible albums is taken from the Juno Eligible list, which was also used for the Maple Blues Eligible list, as provided by John Valentyn of the TBS (Thank you, John!) There is some overlap in the old system and this new list, which means some albums that were eligible last year, are eligible again this year. But this is the only time that should happen.
Secondly, there will be NO email voting this year. The 2011 survey will be online only, thanks to the fine people of WorldApp and http://www.keysurvey.com (Thank you James Thomas)
Lastly, we are starting later than usual. This is due to a combination of over work and ill health on my part, but also it allows us to time the release of the survey results in time with the Maples Blues Awards, giving us a much better tie in with the major blues event of the Year in Canada! The Survey is open now, and will end at 12:00 am, January 19, 2012.

Anders and Kelly are accomplished young musicians who will be representing the Ottawa Blues Society in the Solo/Duo Competition at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, January 31 - February 4, 2012. This concert is intended as a fundraiser (tickets $25) for their trip to Memphis.
All monies collected will go to the musicians. BYOB; soft drinks and light snacks will be provided. If you feel like bringing goodies to share, your contribution would be most welcome!
Kelly is a third generation musician on both sides of her family. She has performed with brother Kaylen as Prescott and recently released debut solo album "I Leave You Dreaming". DAWG fans will recognize her hit song "Jonesin'". Multi-instumentalist Anders has toured internationally and recorded with the Elmer Ferrar Band of Cuba, was lead guitarist of Silver Creek and now fronts popular new band, The Van Meters. You might recognize "Bank Street Blues" from his debut album, "Songs For The Common Man". Individually they are superb, but when they were first united for Michael Bate's critically-acclaimed theatrical concert, "Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons" in which they play Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, magic happened.

Brandon is also known as the front man and main songwriter/guitar player for the popular Canadian band, The Twisters, based in Vancouver.
Brandon has just released his first solo album entitled “Bluesman’s Plea”. Each week OBS hosts keep you up to date on what’s happening on the Ottawa area blues scene, play some great blues from local bands and showcase regional and Canadian talent.

The show features a heavy dose of electric blues and rhythm and blues, with the occasional selection of sixties soul. The first hour is dedicated to artist profiles and reviews of recordings on particular labels. In the second hour there is a blues calendar, a rundown of events in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, and interviews with “new and reissued blues and rhythm and blues tracks on wax”, alternating with “live blues and R&B for a Sunday night” in the last half hour of the show. On the last Sunday of every month, the show goes “down in the delta” for a selection of acoustic blues tracks in the final half hour of the program.

In A Mellow Tone
with Ron Sweetman
Jazz from every era & every style – from 1917 to 2011. Each program features an artist, group, instrument, event, city or record label. Next week, January 18: Jason Kao Hwang: We’ll follow the recording career of this brilliant
Chinese-American violinist from 1980 to 2010, as a sideman and a leader. Hear him with Taylor Ho Bynum, Dominic Duval, Ken Filiano, Dom Minasi, William Parker and Tomas Ulrich.
