Treasa Levasseur

Born in Winnipeg, raised in North Bay, and long-time resident in Toronto, Treasa Levasseur’s roots spread far and dig deep. She goes “home” several times a year, and when she played in Toronto’s famed Massey Hall as part of the Women’s Blues Revue, her mother came to see her perform — for the first time.
Levasseur plays piano, accordion, guitar, mandolin, and anything else she can get her hands on. In May of 2008, she won CBC Radio’s ‘Ultimate Sideman Showdown’ with her trusty accordion and charming presence. Heavily influenced by such soul artists as Mavis Staples, Carole King and Annie Lennox, she remains musically versatile and has played everything from heavy metal to hiphop, country, sugary pop and thoughtful folk music.
Above all, Levasseur has a passion for making music. She simply wants to PLAY — and, in addition to her own career, she cheerfully makes the time to play with at least three other bands on a regular basis. The fact is that she has now created a new family in the big city— a wide-ranging group of musicians and music fans who have learned to love her passionate commitment, unerring harmony singing and instrumental prowess.
Her 2nd CD, “Low Fidelity” may well be a collection of personal songs and stories, but it is never mawkish or sentimental. And her descriptions of romantic entanglements and love (sometimes lust) lost and found resonate with everyone. Everyone, after all, has been there, done that, and lived to identify with the way Levasseur tells the tale.
As always, she has plenty to say, and she will continue to say it with sincerity and sass and a powerful voice that cannot be ignored or denied.

This year’s crops of nominees are not only recognized at home, but have been leading Canada's growing international reputation as a leader in the blues community. Leading the nominations is Toronto’s Downchild with six; Ottawa’s Monkey Junk, who were awarded the 2009 Best New Artist Debut at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN, follow with five. Toronto based singer Shakura S’Aida and Fathead each have four nominations. The first Canadian to win The International Blues Challenge award, New Brunswick’s blues giant Matt Andersen, garnered two nominations.
The 2011 Maple Blues Awards take place at Koerner Hall on January 17, wrapping up the bi-annual Blues Summit Five, a music conference which is a not-to-be-missed forum for all blues music industry members, artists, presenters, and agents.
Now in its 25th year, The Toronto Blues Society is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Blues. The Maple Blues Awards is Canada’s national blues awards program. Its goal is to promote blues music across Canada, and to recognize outstanding achievement in the field.

Just in time for Christmas – two unforgettable evenings of gospel music with Rev. Ernie Cox. Some of Ottawa’s best musicians will make up the band, along with a horn section featuring Michael Webster from New York City – he’s doing the horn arrangements, and will also be playing sax with the horn section as well as soloing. Core singers will be the London Trio Plus+, along with some additional singers, bringing the choir to about 15.
