Each week the cast is topped up with a guest host who steers the song selections in whatever way they're inspired and the jamming begins. You can register your name on a list at the door, choosing at what time you'd like to play. We suggest that you know how to communicate in terms of chords and rhythms, to make the improvisation easier and more convenient for the other musicians. You're more than welcome to come and play with us, and bring your friends! Le Petit Chicago is a very nice bar and we hope to see a lot of people. Spread the word!

Andre & the J-Tones

D’Arcy McGee’s, 44 Sparks Street

Thursday, August 12 @ 9 pm ‘til Last Call

Rhythm & Blues, Motown, Stax, Rock, Funk, and all that great 60s and 70s music! Andre Bisson released “Rhythm & Blues Experience” in 2009. The emphasis on this CD is R&B and soul (old school, not ‘contemporary R&B’), no surprise given the title, but there’s also some blues mixed in. Andre Bisson is a relative newcomer to the blues scene. In his teens in Sault Ste Marie, he played rock ‘n’ roll, then R&B. In college, he studied jazz at Mohawk College in Hamilton, where he met the other members of the band, the J-Tones; all are professional musicians who have ‘day jobs’ teaching music.

Nine of the ten songs on the CD are originals; almost all the tracks on the CD are upbeat (‘Second Chance’ is the exception, with a smoky sax intro) and must fill the dance floor at live gigs. Come out and hear them live!

Jesse Greene Band

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Saturday, August 14

The Rainbow is thrilled at her recent success – winning The Ottawa Blues Society's On The Road To Memphis 2009 and reaching the finals of The 26th International Blues Competition in January 2010 in Memphis TN. Out of 111 bands competing, The Jesse Greene Band won the Hard Rock CafĂ© venue and was the only Canadian band which made it to the finals at the legendary Orpheum Theatre!

Ottawa Blues Cruise

With Guitar Shorty & the Hangmen

Gatineau QC

Saturday, August 14; 8 pm – midnight

The 10th anniversary of Ottawa’s annual summer Blues Cruise, sponsored by M & T Glass, will be hosted by Dylan Black, from 101.9 DAWG FM. Leave your worries at the dock, put on your dancing shoes and come on board! Great music, great ambiance and the order for good cruisin’ weather has already gone in.

This year’s top notch musical line-up …

Legendary guitarist/vocalist Guitar Shorty is a giant in the blues world. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings. Like a bare knuckled boxer, Shorty strikes with his blistering, physical guitar playing and his fierce vocals, connecting directly with body and soul. What really sets Shorty apart is his absolutely unpredictable, off-the-wall guitar playing. He reaches for sounds, riffs and licks that other blues players wouldn't even think of. (See page 22 for OBS review of Shorty’s latest CD, “Bare Knuckle”.)

The Ottawa-based rock group, Hangmen, is comprised of five talented musicians. Lead singer Neal Sundet, guitarist Paul Fenton, brother and fellow guitarist John Fenton, bassist Eric Lackey and drummer 'Burger' (Jean-Marc Muenier). The group's debut album is to be released in 2010.

Also fireworks and a special draw for the ladies.

King Rattler

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Saturday, September 4

Swing-a-Billy Mayhem from the Nation's Capital
The members of King Rattler came together in the Summer of 2008 with the sole purpose of doing something different but still wanting to re-create much of the music they all love. The resulting sound is a cool mix of Rockabilly, Surf, 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and Swing – all executed with a seriously hard-edged attitude, razor-sharp guitar licks, wailing harmonica and an underlying jungle-beat that will get any audience up on their feet!

Monday, August 2
concert 1: Fathers & Sons
, recorded at Capilano University in North Vancouver Mentor and Protégé.

In most cases, these roles are clear. But when you bring together Jim Byrnes, Doug Cox, Steve Dawson and Amos Garret as Fathers & Sons, the roles get blurred. These four musicians set the standard for folk and blues and yet seem to pick up fresh ideas from one another along the way. Hear them exchange ideas tonight on Canada Live and discover why they command so much respect.

Thursday, August 5
concert 2: Tim Williams and Amos Garrett and the Festival AllStars
, recorded at the Vancouver Island MusicFest, Courtenay, B.C.
Vancouver Island MusicFest has been bringing great roots and world music to the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island since 1995. Headlining this year's Friday night main stage were Tim Williams, Amos Garrett and the Festival AllStars. The set was hosted by the venerable Canadian bluesman Amos Garrett and the multi-stringed Tim Williams who brought along the Electro-Fires, his long-time electric band - Ron Casat, Suitcase James, Kevin Belzner and Mike Clark. If that wasn't enough, they invited a stellar lineup of great B.C. guest musicians - Les Quitzau, Paul Pigat, Gary Preston, Roy Forbes, and Dave Harris.
