Canada’s National Arts Centre is thrilled to welcome Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to the public unveiling ceremony of the Oscar Peterson sculpture.
The National Arts centre in collaboration with The Oscar Peterson Sculpture National Committee has commissioned a life-sized bronze statue of the jazz pianist created by renowned artist Ruth Abernethy.
Gregory Charles will host, the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir will sing, and Oliver Jones will play Oscar Peterson’s ‘Hymn to Freedom’.

Over the course of his 30-year career, guitarist and vocalist Coco Montoya's explosive guitar playing and soul-driven voice have propelled him to the upper reaches of the blues-rock world. From his early days as a drummer to his current status as one of the top-drawing guitarists and vocalists on the blues-rock scene, Montoya has forged his reputation through years of hard work and constant touring.
And it all started with a chance meeting in the mid-1970s with legendary bluesman Albert Collins, who offered Montoya a gig as his drummer. Albert took an immediate liking to Montoya, becoming his mentor and teaching his new protégé secrets of the Collins "icy hot" style of blues guitar. Five years later, John Mayall happened to catch Montoya at a jam session and was blown away. This led to Montoya's touring the world for ten years with the legendary Bluesbreakers.
Since stepping out as a bandleader in 1993, Montoya has released four solo albums and has performed non-stop at clubs, concert halls and major festivals all over the world. At every show, fans' jaws dropped, and critics raved about Montoya's mind-bending guitar licks and impassioned vocals.
No stranger to Ottawa blues fans, Coco tours and plays over 200 shows a year. He’ll be at the Rainbow in support of his latest release, “I Want It All Back” on Ruf Records.

To say that Ross Neilsen is a dedicated, chronic over achiever would be an understatement. Recently, he has been honoured with a nomination for Best New Artist at The Maple Blues Awards, two Rising Star nominations from CBC and back-to-back Blues Album of the Year nominations from the East Coast Music Association.
A true road warrior in every sense, Ross Neilsen has spent much of the last two years living out of his van. Two albums in six months, over 200 four-hour shows a year, and a logbook of over 80,000 km covering three national tours.
Ross Neilsen’s latest recording, Redemption, was recorded at the famed Zebra Ranch Studio in Mississippi and it’s the first recording that bears the name of Neilsen’s long-time backing band, The Sufferin’ Bastards, with Shawn Worden on bass and Karl Gans on drums.
