HELP NAME JW's 6th CD...

*******************************************************

From JW-Jones:

Since we value the opinion of our family, friends, and fans so much, we're opening the door of creativity to all of you to help us out. We need to name our new CD, to be released in early 2010.

RULES (super easy!)

- The word blues cannot be in the title.

- It has to be as unique as possible = If you search for it on google like this: ["Your CD Title"] without the brackets - we need less than 200 matches.

- Please don't stop at one idea - send as many as you like.

- Even if YOU think it's terrible, it probably isn't! It might be something we can work with.

- Don't be shy.

PRIZES

- Winner will receive 3 signed copies of the new CD, signed poster, t-shirt, and a credit (a "thank you" to winner’s name) inside the CD.

CONTEST DEADLINE: As we need to get this sorted out ASAP, the first great idea we get might be the one we use there is no deadline time/date to this contest other than when we have a title that moves us!

------------------------------------

HELP NAME AN INSTRUMENTAL ON THE CD featuring HUBERT SUMLIN...

So far we have "Sumlinizin'" which is not bad! But we want to test the waters to see if something better comes up. Using Hubert or Sumlin in the name would be excellent. One word would be even better than excellent! It doesn't have to be a real word. Make one up!

Thanks again, look forward to the ideas... please post them on JW-Jones Facebook group, or send a message to info@jw-jones.com

SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEK

*******************************************************

Anthony Gomes & the New Soul Cowboys

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Tuesday, November 10 @ 8 pm; cover $10

Saddle up with New Soul Cowboys as the rowdy Nashville power trio has arrived to lay down the law; to serve and uphold the virtues of Rock ‘N’ Roll. Singer/guitarist Anthony Gomes, bassist David Karns and drummer Peter Lang have set out to leave their indelible mark on music by forging a brand all their own. The trio’s soul sonic force delivers the rough and tumble swagger of rock while having the audacity to blend in the distinctive sounds of whiskey-soaked roadhouse Blues and southern-fried power Country. “If you haven’t heard,” Gomes proclaims, “there’s a new Sherriff in town.”

New Soul Cowboys describe their sound as Outlaw Rock ‘N’ Roll. “Anyone that is a musical badass has been an outlaw in their genre, living outside of conventional rules,” states Gomes. “We have created a sound that embodies the rebel spirit of musical outcasts like Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash and Howlin’ Wolf. We’re here to take back Rock ‘N’ Roll,” the guitar-slinger boldly but unapologetically exclaims. “We are part of a new music revolution in rock. A place where bands know where the music came from, can really play their instruments, write their own songs and take no prisoners doing it. We couldn’t care less about American Idol, we’re here to take our music to the streets.”

Jadea Kelly & Dave Borins band

With Lindsay Ferguson and Phlegm
Rainbow, 76 Murray Street
Saturday, November 14 @ 9:30 pm

Sharing a van and a band, Toronto based Dave Borins & Jadea Kelly have teamed up for a two week tour to the east coast. East Side Ride 09’ will travel through Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Fredericton, Moncton, Sackville, Hampton and Halifax – lined with a plethora of house concerts, taverns and cafés.
Both Dave and Jadea have been awarded Toronto Independent Music Awards, Jadea taking ‘Best Country’ and Dave nominated for ‘Best Live Acoustic Performer’ and ‘Best Folk Artist’ of 2008.

Jadea is to release her highly anticipated second album “Eastbound Platform”, with producer David Baxter in January ‘09. This disc includes songs featured/co-written by Justin Rutledge, David Baxter and Lori Yates. The maturity of her vocals borders on the harder, and much more passionate, mixes of Loretta Lynn’s ‘Feelings’ and Neko Case’s rockin ‘Kansas City’. The Jadea Kelly band has crafted what they like to call ‘spooky country’.
http://www.jadea.ca

Dave Borins is quite possibly one of Toronto’s most energetic acoustic soul players and performers. This may be attributed to the following successes: a sold out show at the prestigious Hugh's Room, an independently-booked cross Canada tour, sold-out shows in New York City, and house concert bookings throughout Southern Ontario. Like many of his peers, Borins works hard to construct a life based purely on performing music. When he’s off the road he works as a backcountry guide – trekking all over the world from Himalayan Mountains to Ancient Incan trails, lugging his guitar from place to place. From this you begin to understand where he draws his inspiration from. Some of his title tracks, like ‘Oh River’ or ‘Poison Tree’, borrow on much of Canada's old-fashioned, roots-based music, but it is Borins who applies an engaging lyrical intensity. He has two records, “Songs of Sense and Colour” (2007) and “The Lucky Ones” (EP 2009).
http://www.daveborins.com

Independent Artist/Musician, Lindsay Ferguson released her first ever full-length album "Sound" in September 2007 with a record-breaking attendance at her CD Release Party at The Black Sheep in Wakefield QC. The album was critically acclaimed as Canada's 2nd Best album of 2007 (after Feist’s "Reminder") by the Ottawa Citizen. Lindsay got her start singing at the young age of two; nearly three decades later, Lindsay has been honing her voice & song-writing by researching life tales through living & singing in various places: Bermuda, Ontario, Newfoundland, Ireland, Peru, Quebec, California, Switzerland and now Toronto.

Blues-rock band Phlegm includes the Watters Brothers (Mud & Dan) along with two other family members, David Ranger and Dad Pat Watters. The band was a finalist, both last year and this year, in the Ottawa Blues Society's local blues challenge, 'On the Road to Memphis'. Amanda Putz, one of the judges, loved this band's sound, their name not so much! The band defines their name, ‘Phlegm’, and themselves, using the Oxford Dictionary's definition …"coolness and calmness of disposition"!

bluessmyth

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Tuesday, November 30 @ 9:30 pm

After two successful albums "30 Pieces of Silver" and self-titled "bluessmyth", "Sola Gratia" has just been released. This riveting and introspective recording from the Canadian trio includes powerful tracks written about Hurricane Katrina and deep human experiences such as reaching out in despair, soul searching, and finding redemption.

In essence, bluessmyth creates beyond the confines of a single genre. The name of the group melds together "blues" and "smyth" (or smith) as the symbolic forging and fusion of the roots of blues music with heavy metallic overtones, and gospel & soul influences. The dynamic of bluessmyth has evolved with the addition of drummer Celene Yohemas. Seamlessly matched with the solid, definitive bass lines of Jason Yaholkoski, and supporting soulful singer and guitarist Chris Yaholkoski, the new dynamic is a recipe for international success.
