JW-Jones

10th Anniversary Show

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Friday, October 3 @ 9:30 am

Even though they had done a few performances and won a ‘battle-of-the-bands’ before their first ‘real’ gig on November 27, 1998 opening for UK band ‘The Hoax’ at Perfect Strangers in Ottawa, Jones considers this the beginning. Neither the club nor the headline act is in existence today, but the young blues band is alive and well. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 10 years, but after 5 releases, countless guest appearances, 13 countries, 4 continents, over 200 cities and 800 performances, the math certainly adds up. Help the band celebrate at the JW-Jones 10th Anniversary show on Friday October 3 with Jesse Whiteley and surprise guests.

Virée Blues Boréale presents

Jack de Keyzer

Café Le Troquet, 41 Laval Street, Old Hull Sector

Wednesday, October 1

First rate composer and performer in Canada, he will present his all new album “Blues Thing” which he launched last fall. A professional guitarist since age 18, Jack de Keyzer’s Blues carries accents of jazz, funk, R&B and swing. Since 1985, with his group, he averages some 150 shows a year, from sea to sea and even abroad. From Toronto’s Molson amphitheater to Virée Blues Boréale in Gatineau, from Montreal International Jazz Festival to Vancouver International Jazz Festival, from Blues sur Seine in France to Puerto Blues Festival in Mexico, Jack DeKeyser with Michael Fonfara on piano, Allan Duffy on bass and David Colter on drums always deliver top rate shows.

Jack DeKeyser’s dare to the effect that you won’t be able to refrain from dancing on your chair, on top of your chair, is yours to take up. It’s a rendez-vous with Canadian Blues at its very best,

Mr. Something Something

Rainbow, 76 Murray Street

Saturday, October 4 @ 9:30 pm

“A little something for the body. A little something for the mind. Mr. Something Something formed in 2003 and are already performing several times a month in clubs and at festivals. Bookings continue to roll in as people, at first curious, make a point of approaching the band after shows to say they’ve never heard anything like it, what is it, and when’s the next show? The grooves have West African roots, with breaks and basslines designed to induce and sustain a state of ecstatic dancing. The horn section strikes with power and uplifts with melody, leading the dancers through extended forms. Above it all, acting as a lightning-rod for the combined energies of a Mr. Something Something event is the lyric statement of the case for change and consciousness. And dance.”

CANADIAN BLUES ARTISTS ON BLIND LEMON BLUES

Blind Lemon Blues will be doing a Canadian Spotlight this fall season. The idea is to spotlight music from a Canadian blues player on each episode and give away a copy of the artist`s latest CD as a prize on that episode. I am calling out to artists interested in supporting this programming idea! I need 2-3 copies of your latest CD (signed if possible) for airplay and giveaway. I also need a short bio to use on air – some artist facts, that sort of thing. TALKIN’ BLUES VIDEO PODCASTS

********************************************************

Effective immediately, Talkin’Blues Media Inc. is piloting a series of “Talkin’Blues video podcasts” which will be available – absolutely free of charge – through the iTunes Store and http://talkinblues.podbean.com . To subscribe to these podcasts, go to the iTunes store, click on video podcasts and search “Talkin’Blues podcasts” or go to www.talkinblues.com and select the “podcast” option.

“The goal of these podcasts is simple: to provide more blues/roots music content on the iTunes network. Each will consist of one or two songs, together with a short interview with the featured artist. Each podcast will be a condensed, slightly simplified version of the Talkin’Blues television series. I am hoping to produce a number of episodes to monitor interest in the project, with decisions to continue based on the outcome”, says series producer, Mako Funasaka.

The first video podcast features Billy Boy Arnold performing “Squeeze Me Tight” from his latest Electro-Fi CD release, “Billy Boy sings Sonny Boy”. This video also features Mel Brown, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Bob Stroger and Billy Flynn. Several other podcasts have been completed and will be published every 3 – 5 weeks. Future podcasts will include The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Ruthie Foster, Gary Clark Jr., Julian Fauth and Watermelon Slim – to name a few.

In addition to producing these video podcasts, Mako Funasaka and his wife, Patti recently spent a week in Notodden, Norway to document interviews, workshops and performances at the Notodden Blues Festival for the future European Blues Senter (Center). The European Blues Senter is scheduled to be built in Notodden, Norway over the next few years.

“It’s truly an honour to be working with Jostein Forsberg and everyone at the European Blues Senter in Norway on this project”, says Funasaka. “It’s a compliment that they would include our work in presenting the Blues to their audiences. To be able to get in on the ground floor with such an exciting project is a wonderful opportunity for us and we’re absolutely thrilled about it.”

For more information, please go to www.talkinblues.com or email Mako at makofunasaka@rogers.com
